194002356 - 4450A10 FRONT WHEEL GEOMETRY - CHECK USING OPTICAL EQUIPMENT - INCLUDES ADJUSTMENT IF NECESSARY

- This check procedure must be carried out after each operation on the front suspension mechanical components since its purpose is to define the position of the wheel in relation to the body (e.g.: wishbones, stub axles, shock absorbers, springs etc.).OPERATING CYCLEIntroduction- Wheel geometry/angle checks must be carried out using appropriate optical equipment after checking and adjusting tyre inflation pressure to the specified values and ensuring that the vehicle respects one of the following load conditions:- “Standard 0” - all engine fluids and approx. 8 litres of fuel in the tank- “Standard A” - vehicle unladen including spare wheel, tools, accessories and consumables, full tank of fuel.. Note in the event of operations on the front suspension wishbone- Tighten the wishbone with the vehicle geometry accurately set (to avoid torsional loads on the flexible bushes). To obtain the above conditions, ballast the vehicle until dimensions A and B indicated in the figure are within the values indicated below, then tighten to torque.
Ground clearance for tightening fastenings with flexible bushes on front suspension
Height A186 ± 5mm
Height B156 ± 5mm
CHECKING AND ADJUSTING FRONT SUSPENSION GEOMETRY/ANGLESChecking geometry1. Before checking front wheel geometry, ensure that the ground clearances A and B indicated in the figure are within the specified values.
Ground clearance for checking front geometry (Standard 0)
Height A203 ± 5mm
Height B175 ± 5mm
Ground clearance for checking front geometry (Standard A)
Height A201 ± 5mm
Height B173 ± 5mm
Checking front toe-in- Check that the front wheel half toe-in is within required limits.
FRONT WHEEL SEMI TOE IN
Standard 0-1 ± 1mm
FRONT WHEEL SEMI TOE IN
Standard A-1 ± 1mm
- If the front wheel toe in value is not within the recommended figures, adjust it following the instructions given below.Checking front toe-in- Make sure that the steering wheel is perfectly straight and lock it in this position using a suitable tool.1. Loosen the lock-nuts fastening the steering rods.2. Tighten or loosen the steering links until the toe in is correct keeping the front wheels aligned.
After adjustment, the number of free threads on the right steering link should be the same as the number of free threads on the left link.
- Tighten the steering link lock-nuts to the recommended torque.

- Remove the tool used to lock the steering wheel.
Checking camber
The front wheel camber cannot be adjusted. If the reading is not within specified values. check the lower wishbone and the body.
- Check that the front wheel camber is within required limits.
