The roof opening system comprises an extensively glazed area known as the outersliding skydome. The glazed area is divided into two panels: the rear one is fixed and the front one slides on the outside. The latter which is electrically operated, is activated by a switch that can be adjusted using a selector which has 5 positions. There are two sun blinds on the inside of the roof that slide independently towrads the rear of the vehicle. The front sun blind is electrically operated, the rear one can only be controlled manually. The sun roof and electric front blind selectors are located on the front courtesy light cover and, by means of a control unit, they control the activation of the electric motors located on the rear of the roof. The electronic control units are integrated in the electric motor casing: one for the moving glass (master) and one for the blind (slave). The movement of the sun roof takes place by operating the 5 position rrotary selector (clockwise for opening and anti-clockwise for closing), whilst an impulse type opening/closing button controls the front blind. For each of the 5 positions the there is a corresponding roof opening. The roof can be opened completely in one single manoeuvre by switching the selector from position "0" to position "5".Whilst the roof is opening, the system automatically manages the opening of the blind. However, when the roof is fully open, the system allows the independing management of the opening/closing of the blind (one-touch function). It is however not advisble to travel with the sun roof open and the blind closed. The system is equipped with an anti-crush safety function. A HALL effect sensor is located on the front profile of the glass panel and, by means of the sun roof control unit, it halts the movement of the roof if there is an obstacle. In addition, the control unit is capable of recognizing any increased current absorption for the roof moving motors due to any obstacles and it immediately stops the movement and reverses it.
