194001728 - E7030 AIR BAG - OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The control unit for the Air Bag system M060 receives a supply controlled by the ignition (INT from the steering lock control unit) at pin 2 of connector B from the line protected by fuse F50 of the junction unit under the dashboard B002.Pin 1 of connector B is connected to earth C050 (on the body, connector A).Early Crash sensors on the driver side K175 and passenger side K176 receive a general earth signal from pins 5 and 6 of connector B of control unit M060. When they detect a slight or major impact, they notify control unit M060 at pins 12 and 11 of connector B.When, according to the control logic, the two sensors and the sensors incorporated in the actual control unit detect a slight frontal impact, the control unit sends signals for the intervention of the front modules in the first stage:- to the driver''s Air Bag Q009 (connector A), via the clock spring on the steering wheel D047 (from pins 15 and 16 of connector B of M060 );- to the passenger Air Bag Q011 (from pins 13 and 14 of connector B of M060);- to the front driver''s pretensioners Q020 (from pins 5 and 6 of connector A of M060) and passenger side Q021 (from pins 7 and 8 of connector A of M060).If a more serious frontal impact is detected, the control unit sends signals for the intervention of the front modules in the second stage:- to the driver''s Air Bag Q009 (connector B), via the clock spring on the steering wheel D047 (from pins 19 and 20 of connector B of M060 );- to the passenger Air Bag Q011 (from pins 17 and 18 of connector B of M060);- to the passenger Air Bag Q014 (from pins 23 and 24 of connector B of M060);Passenger airbag exclusion control H075 is connected to control unit M060 at pins 10 (general earth) and 9 (disablement signal) of connector B.Side impact detection sensors on the driver side K066 and passenger side K067 receive a general earth signal from pins 21 and 23 of connector A of control unit M060. When they detect impact of a certain severity, they notify control unit M060, pins 27 and 28 of connector A.According to its control logic, the control unit emits control signals to activate the modules:- to the driver''s front Side Bag Q030 (from pins 13 and 14 of connector A of M060);- to the passenger side front Side Bag Q031 (from pins 15 and 16 of connector A of M060);- to the driver''s Head Bag Q040 (from pins 1 and 2 of connector A of M060)- to the passenger side Head Bag Q041 (from pins 3 and 4 of connector A of M060)- to the left rear side bag Q042 (from pins 9 and 10 of connector A of M060);- to the right rear side bag Q043 (from pins 11 and 12 of connector A of M060);The rear pretensioners on the left Q022 and right Q023 are connected to control unit M060 at pins 29-30 and 31-32 of connector A.The seat belt switches built into the front pretensioners on the driver''s side Q020 and passenger''s side Q021 connect to the control unit and send an earth signal to pins 19 and 20 of connector A of M060 respectively. The passenger presence sensor K065 housed in the seat cushion sends an earth signal to pin 18 of connector A of the control unit. The cut-out control for rear airbag H076 is connected to pin 24 of connector A of control unit M060.The front seat structure housnig the side bags, seat belt switches built into the front pretensioners, the passenger presence sensor and the rear airbag deactivation control are connected to earth C050 (connector B).Control unti M060 (pins 7 and 8 of connector B) is connected via the CAN line to the Body Computer and instrument panel E050 to send signal to the various warning lights and buzzers included in the electrical function. When the self-diagnostic system detects a fault or an impact is recorded, control unit M060 sends a signal via the CAN network to the airbag fault warning light in instrument E050. The same applies to the passenger air bag disablement warning light, the rear air bag disablement warning light and the seat belts unfastened warning light. The self-diagnostic data can be read by connecting to connector C of the Body Computer M001: this receives data from control unit M060, via the CAN network.
