198002186 - 5040A20 AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR - R+R - INCLUDES FLUID LEVEL CHECK AND TOP UP IF NECESSARY

Removing ( Refitting )
Follow the recommended safety instructions (see 5040 - Introduction).
- Position the vehicle on a lift.- Drain the coolant.    Op. 0010T84 COOLANT FOR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM - DEHYDRATE AND REPRESSURIZE     Op. 7055B54 UNDER ENGINE PROTECTION/GUARD - R.R.     Op. 7055B66 ENGINE COMPARTMENT DUST COVER IN RIGHT FRONT WHEEL ARCH - R.R.     Op. 1092G10 SINGLE ENGINE BELT - R.R 1. Undo bolts (1a) and remove belt guard (1b) from the compressor.2. Undo bolt (2a), releasing bracket (2b).3. Undo bolt (3a) and disconnect connector (3b) for the pipe from the compressor to the condenser.4. Undo bolt (4a) and disconnect connector (4b) for the pipe from the compressor to the expansion valve.
Seal the connectors which have been disconnected, using suitable plugs to prevent dampness and impurities from entering the system.
1. Detach the electrical connection.

2. Undo the compressor fixing bolts.3. Recover the compressor.
- If the compressor is being replaced, proceed as follows.1. Drain the fluid from the compressor via the pipe connection openings. If necessary, rotate the compressor manually several times, so that all of the fluid comes out.
The fluid is extremely hygroscopic: avoid leaving the containers open. Avoid leaving the compressor or any of the components disconnected from the system for any longer than is strictly necessary.
1. Collect the fluid drained from the compressor in a suitable transparent container (quantity A).2. Drain the fluid from the new compressor (quantity B) and collect it following the instructions given previously.3. Reintroduce a quantity of oil into the new compressor that corresponds to what was removed from the compressor being replaced (C=B-A).
Refitting ( Removing ) - Check that the compressor is not damaged.1. Reposition the compressor.2. Tighten the compressor retaining bolts.

Replace the O-rings on the connectors. Only use green coloured seals that are resistant to R134a coolant. Lubricate the connector threads using anti-freeze.
2. Connect connector (2a) for the pipe from the compressor to the condenser, compressor side, and secure it by tightening bolt (2b) to the recommended torque.
