198000337 - E2010 SIDE LIGHTS/NUMBER PLATE LIGHT - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The side lights come on when the ring nut on the steering column switch unit left lever is turned to the first position. The switching on of the side lights is managed by the Body Computer. The side light control function takes place with the key ON, or with the key OFF for parking lights and follow-me-home function. The number plate light and numerous other interior lights for lighting the passenger compartment, instruments and controls are activated together with the side lights (these are described and explained in the wiring diagrams for the relevant components), in particular:    See E2535 CONTROL LIGHTSActivation/deactivation information is sent via the CAN: in this way, the side lights warning light in the instrument panel is also activated. On some versions, the side lights are also activated automatically by the dusk sensor. This sensor, located on the windscreen under the interior rear view mirror, detects the variations in outside brightness depending on the light setting: the greater the sensitivity, the less external light is required to activate the exterior lights. The setting of the dusk sensor can be adjusted using the instrument panel setup menu.    See descriptions 5560 INSTRUMENTS When the ring nut is turned in the opposite direction (AUTO position) the side lights and the dipped headlamps automatically come on simultaneously depending on the exterior brightness. The flashing function is only possible with the sensor activated. When the command to switch off is given by the sensor, the main beam headlamps are deactivated and then the side lights about 10 seconds later. The parking lights function makes it possible to switch on the side lights and the no. plate lights with the ignition OFF, to signal the presence of the vehicle whilst it is parked. They can only be activated with the ignition OFF by turning the ring nut from OFF to the first position. When the direction indicator lever is activated the lights on one side only (left or right) can be selected. The function is deactivated by moving the steering column switch unit lights ring nut to the OFF position or at the vehicle Key ON. This last operation resets the function and the Body Computer controls the lights depending on the command selected using the steering column switch unit ring nut.The "Follow me home" function allows the dipped headlamps and the side lights to remain on even after the engine has been switched off (key in OFF position) for a period of 30 seconds or multiples thereof. The side lights warning light in the instrument panel signals that the lights have remained on. It is turned on using the lever in the same way as for activating the flasher within 2 minutes of the ignition being switched OFF: each time the lever is operated the length of time the lights remain on is increased by 30 seconds, up to a maximum of 210 seconds. Inserting the TEG or keeping the flasher lever pulled for more than 2 seconds eliminates the function. The correct operation of the lights is checked by the side lights and no. plate lights check function: the following is checked for each of the circuits:- circuit open or bulb missing- short-circuit to earth (bulb s.c. or wiring s.c. to earth)- short circuit to battery voltage (wiring short circuited to Vbatt)When one of the situations described above is ascertained, the Body Computer makes the failure status available to the CAN: a special "lights failure" warning light comes on in the instrument panel and, at the same time, the information is shown in the display. If a fault is detected with the dusk sensor, the "general failure" warning light is turned on and the information is shown simultaneously on the display.
