198000488 - E3090 PARKING SENSOR - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The "Parking Assistance" system supplies the driver with information on distance when approaching obstacles behind the vehicle thereby providing help with parking manoeuvres and identifying obstacles that are outside the field of vision. The standard versions with four rear sensors is helpful when getting close to obstacles behind the vehicle. The driver is notified of the presence and distance of the obstacle from the vehicle by an acoustic signal which varies depending on the distance from the obstacle (as the distance from the obstacle decreases the frequency of the acoustic signal increases). The system is activated if the following conditions are present simultaneously:- key ON;- reverse gear engaged (with the speed below 15km/h).When the system is activated the buzzer (incorporated in the instrument panel) sounds as a warning that the system is activated. The system is deactivated by disengaging reverse gear and when the vehicle speed is above 18 km/h.
The distance measurement only takes place when the system is activated, whilst only the control unit is operational in the inactive state.
An electronic control unit activates and controls the operation of the sensors located in the rear bumper, processes the signals received and operates the buzzer in the instrument panel. The sensors use ultrasound technology and act as intelligent transmitters/receivers with triangulation technology. They allow improved detection in critical situations or in the presence of small obstacles. The impulses emitted are reflected by any obstacles; the transducer receives an echo which is converted into a digital signal and sent to the electronic control unit. For more details and information on the operation of the system,    See descriptions 5580H PARKING OBSTACLE DETECTION DEVICE The control unit is equipped with a self-diagnostic function: when switched on the control unit carries out an initial test on the sensors which are then continuously subject to fault diagnosis during the operation of the system.A fault in only one sensor inhibits the operation of the entire system which is deactivated.Any faults/errors are signaled in the instrument panel by the relevant warning light coming on and the message in the display. The system receives an ignition-controlled supply (INT) from the circuit protected by a dedicated fuse in the junction unit under the dashboard.
If there is a trailer, rear obstacles are not signalled thanks to a dedicated connection between the control unit and a socket in the tow hook.
