198000683 - E7060 TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION
Description
The TPMS Tyre Pressure Monitoring System checks the pressure and temperature of the tyres at all times. In particular, it activates a visual and acoustic signal in the instrument panel if the pressure of one or more of the tyres goes below a preset limit. In this way the T.P.M.S. warns the driver and signals the possibility of the tyre being dangerously deflated and a probable puncture. The system comprises a control unit inside the passenger compartment (in the luggage compartment, right hand side) and four transmission sensors located in the tyre on the wheel rim which send signals to four receiver aerials. The aerials acquire information on the status of the four tyres via radio signals. They therefore communicate with the tyre pressure control unit and, via the A-BUS serial line, with the Body Computer and then via the CAN with the other nodes, in particular the instrument panel. At key-on, the control unit conducts an initial check: when the vehicle moves, the sensors measure the pressure and then make a transmission to indicate the initial status. The receiver receives this transmission from all the sensors within 5 seconds so that it can check tyre function. The warning light (or symbol in the display) comes on when a fault is detected by the T.P.M.S.For more details: See descriptions 4450 HUBS AND WHEELS The control unit supply lines are protected by fuses in the boot compartment control unit and Body Computer.
