198002726 - 1080BI Check on operation of Lambda sensor heater

STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDIF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1WIRING CONTINUITY CHECK

  • Turn the ignition key OFF.
  • Connect disconnector AD-456 n° 1806590000 between the cable loom coming from the engine management control unit and the sensor
  • Extract the relay T9 from the socket in the engine compartment junction unit
  • Connect a shunt cable with a fuse between pin 87 of the base unit for relay T9 and the battery positive.
  • Check that the voltage between pin 4 (wiring side) of the sensor
    See K040 LAMBDA SENSOR

  • Check that the voltage between pin 4 (wiring side) of the sensor
Move on to Step 3
Repair or, if necessary, replace the wiring between the engine compartment junction unit and the Lambda sensor    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT Replace the engine compartment junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
3WIRING CONTINUITY CHECK

  • Disconnect the shunt connection with fuse.
  • Disconnect the cable loom connector from the engine management control unit connector K.
  • Check that the resistance for the wiring between pin 3 of the sensor and pin 51 of the engine management control unit is less than 1 Ohm
Move on to Step 4
Repair or, if necessary, replace the wiring between the engine management control unit and the Lambda sensor    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
4Check the continuity of the wiring

  • Turn the ignition key OFF.
  • Check that the resistance between pin 3 (wiring side) of the sensor
    See K040 LAMBDA SENSOR

  • and the earth is more than 500 kOhm.
Move on to Step 5
Repair or, if necessary, replace the wiring between the engine management control unit and the Lambda sensor    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
5Check the continuity of the wiring

  • Check that the resistance between pin 3 (wiring side) of the sensor
    See K040 LAMBDA SENSOR

  • and control unit Pin 12 (wiring side)
    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU

  • is less than 5 Ohm
Move on to Step 6
Repair or, if necessary, replace the wiring between the engine management control unit and the Lambda sensor    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
6Heater resistance check

  • Check that the resistance between pins 3 and 4 (wiring side) of the sensor
    See K040 LAMBDA SENSOR

  • is around 3 Ohm
Replace the Lambda sensor    Op. 1080B90 LAMBDA SENSOR - R.R.Replace the engine management control unit    Op. 1060G80 DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTION CONTROL UNIT - R.R
7Current adjustment resistance check

  • Check that the resistance between pins 1 and 5 (wiring side) of the sensor
    See K040 LAMBDA SENSOR

  • is between 30 and 300 Ohm
Replace the Lambda sensor    Op. 1080B90 LAMBDA SENSOR - R.R.Replace the engine management control unit    Op. 1060G80 DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTION CONTROL UNIT - R.R
