198002730 - 3330DA VACUUM PUMP AND VACUUM CIRCUIT FOR BRAKE SERVO AND ENGINE VACUUM OPERATION CHECK

The engine vacuum that develops in the intake line is an excellent indication of the engine condition.
STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1

  • Discharge the vacuum in the brake servo, with the engine switched off, by repeatedly pressing and releasing the brake pedal forcefully.
  • Start up the engine without accelerating, with the pedal depressed.
  • After a few seconds, check that the brake pedal is operating in accordance with the increase in pressure due to the action of the brake servo.
  • Release the brake pedal and switch off the engine without operating the pedal again.
  • After about 10 minutes with the engine switched off, operate the brake pedal and check that when it is operated for the first time the extent it is lowered corresponds to the brake servo and that the operation becomes gradually harder.
Engine vacuum check

  • Let the engine reach its normal operating temperature.
After the engine has warmed up, place the gear lever in neutral, apply the handbrake and lock the drive wheels.

  • Stop the engine and switch off all the electrical switches.
  • Remove the vacuum pipe for brake servo (1).
  • Connect the vacuum gauge for vacuum pump (3) n.° 2000015500 to vacuum unit side (2) where the brake servo vacuum pipe has been disconnected.
  • Seal brake servo vacuum pipe (1) using tape or something similar.
  • Let the engine idle and take a vacuum gauge reading.
  • The vacuum should be around 0.9 bar.
