199000152 - 1040AD CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY FUNCTIONS

STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
In the engine bay junction unit, remove fuel pump relay T8 from the base (it is the first from the bottom in the right lower row).Measure the voltage between Pin 30 of the base unit and Earth, ensuring it is greater than 11 V.Move on to Step 8Move on to Step 2
Remove fuse F30 (second from the left on the second row from the bottom) in the engine compartment junction unit and check it has not blown.Move on to Step 6Move on to Step 3
Fit a new fuse F30 and check it does not blow.Restore the correct electrical connections in the engine compartment junction unit    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT If necessary, replace the junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
Connect a shunt cable with a fuse between Pins 30 and 87 of the base unit for relay T8 and the battery positive.Check that the shunt connection fuse does not cut inReplace the relay T8
If faults are found, restore the wiring between the engine compartment junction unit and the fuel pump    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered overReplace the fuel pump    Op. 1040A70 SUBMERGED PUMP ASSEMBLY COMPLETE WITH LEVEL GAUGE CONTROL - R + R
Measure the voltage between fuse F30 input contact and earth, checking it is greater than 11 VRestore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the battery.    See E1010 POWER SUPPLY
Restore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the battery.    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered over
Turn the ignition key to the ON position.Measure the voltage between Pin 86 of the base unit and Earth, ensuring it is greater than 11 V.Restore the correct electrical connections in the engine compartment junction unit    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT If necessary, replace the junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.Disconnect the wiring harness connector from engine control unit connector BTurn the ignition key to the ON position.Measure the voltage across pin 75 (wiring side) of control unit connector B    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and Earth, checking it is less than 0.3 VRestore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the engine control unit    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.Measure the resistance across pin 75 (wiring side) of control unit connector B    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and Earth, checking it is greater than 500 kOhmsRestore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the engine control unit    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
Measure the resistance across pin 75 (wiring side) of control unit connector B    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and pin 85 of the base for relay T8, checking that it is less than 5 OhmsRestore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the engine control unit    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
Turn the ignition key to the ON position.Measure the voltage across Pin 87 of the base unit and Earth, ensuring it is less than 0.3 V.Move on to Step 5
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.Connect a shunt connection lead with a fuse between Pins 30 and 87 of the base unit of relay T8 and check that the fuel pump is turning.Move on to Step 15Move on to Step 14
Remove the fuse of the shunt connection from the base unit.Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the fuel pumpRefit the fuse of the shunt connection to the base unit.Measure the voltage across pin 4 (wiring side) of the pump wiring connector    See N040 FUEL PUMP AND LEVEL GAUGE and the Earth, checking it is greater than 11 V.Move on to Step 5Restore the correct connection between the engine compartment junction unit and the battery.    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
Disconnect the shunt connection with fuse.Refit relay T8 in the base unit.Turn the ignition key to the ON position.Connect a shunt cable with fuse across pin 75 (wiring side) of control unit connector B    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and the earth.Connect a shunt cable with fuse across pin 80 (wiring side) of control unit connector B    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and earth and check that the fuel pump is turningReplace the relay T8
Replace the engine management control unit    Op. 1060G80 DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTION CONTROL UNIT - R.R
