CHECK TO BE PERFORMEDRESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1Check that the glow plugs operate correctlyReplace the faulty glow plugs    Op. 5520C10 HEATER PLUGS - R+R
2Turn the ignition key OFF.Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the glow plug control unitMeasure the voltage between Pin 3 (wiring side) of the control unit and Earth, ensuring it is greater than 11 V.    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Move on to Step 11Move on to Step 3
3Remove fuse F59 (second from the left in the bottom row) from the engine compartment junction unit and check it has not blown.    See B001 JUNCTION UNIT Move on to Step 9Move on to Step 4
4Fit a new fuse F59 and check it does not blow.Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the junction unit in the engine compartment and the glow plug control unit.    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
5Reconnect the wiring harness connector to the glow plug control unitDisconnect the wiring harness connector from the first glow plug.Replace fuse F59.Turn the ignition key OFF.Carry out the following active diagnosis on the diagnostic tester: Glow plug preheating control unit relay control.Check that fuse F59 cuts inDisconnect each of the remaining glow plugs consecutively and repeat the check every timeReplace the glow plug    Op. 5520C10 HEATER PLUGS - R+R that does not cause the fuse to blow.
6Turn the ignition key OFF.Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the glow plug control unitConnect a shunt connection cable without a fuse between Pins 1 and 3 of the control unit wiring connector (wiring side).    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Fit a new fuse F59 and check it does not blow.Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the glow plug control unt and the individual glow plugs    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
7Disconnect the shunt connection.Connect a shunt connection cable with a fuse between Pins 2 and 3 of the control unit wiring connector (wiring side).    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Fit a new fuse F59 and check it does not blow.Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the glow plug control unt and the individual glow plugs    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT

13Check that the preheating control unit management status parameter is active on the diagnostic tester.Move on to Step 15Move on to Step 14

15Connect a shunt cable without a fuse across control unit Pin 9 (wiring side) and earth.    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Check that the preheating control unit management status parameter is inactive on the diagnostic tester.Move on to Step 14
16Disconnect the shunt connection.Carry out the following active diagnosis on the diagnostic tester: Glow plug preheating control unit relay control.Connect a (3 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pins 6 of the control unit wiring connector and the battery positive, checking that it is greater than 11 V.    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Move on to Step 14
17Turn the ignition key OFF.Disconnect the wiring harness connector from engine control unit connector BMeasure the resistance between Pin 6 of control unit wiring connector (wiring side) and Earth, checking it is greater than 500 kOhms.    See M015 PLUG PREHEATING CONTROL UNIT Repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine compartment control unit and the glow plug control unit.    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
18Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the glow plug.    See A040 HEATER PLUGS Turn the ignition key ON.Measure the voltage between glow plug A wiring connector (wiring side) and Earth. 19Turn the ignition key OFF.Measure the resistance between glow plug A and C wiring connector (wiring side) and Earth. 20Connect a shunt connection cable with a fuse between Pins 1 and 2 of the control unit wiring connector (wiring side) and the battery positive.Measure the voltage between glow plug A, B, C and D glow plug wiring connector (wiring side) and Earth.
