199000892 - S017 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, there is a whistling noise coming from the front suspension. This diagnosis can only be made after diagnosis    See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVINGCarry out the latter first.
If the problem is only on one side, carry out the checks and any operations on the appropriate side only.

0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
After carrying out a road test during diagnosis, a noise is heard from the front identifiable as a whistling/blowing.    See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVINGContinue depending on the circumstances in which the noise occursEnd of diagnosis1. The noise increases when cornering2. The noise increases in vertical oscillation conditions1. Replace the wheel bearing on the side where the problem occurs, positioning it with the magnetic race towards the steering knuckle ring.    Op. 4450C32 ONE FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING, LH OR RH - REPLACE
This bearing is used by the ABS active sensors to calculate the wheel speed. It should NEVER come into contact with metal shavings because they could alter the gap and prevent a correct reading from the sensor

1BRAKE DISC CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check for any distortion to the disc heat shield.Turn the wheel assembly to check for noise due to contact between disc and heat shield.Move on to Step 21. Distortion of the heat shield2. Contact between heat shield and disc1. Restore the correct gap and replace the guard if necessary    Op. 3310A59 FRONT BRAKE DISC GUARD (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT- R.R 2. Replace the brake disc and replace the wheel bearing if the noise persists    Op. 3310A48 FRONT BRAKE DISC (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R     Op. 4450C32 ONE FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING, LH OR RH - REPLACE
2SHOCK ABSORBER STEM CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Remove the left and/or right wheel.    Op. 4450B02 LEFT FRONT WHEEL - R.R     Op. 4450B04 RIGHT FRONT WHEEL - R.R Check that the noise is not due to irregular friction between the shock absorber stem and the gasket, checking the condition (scoring/contact marks) of the stem chrome surface.End of diagnosisThere is irregular frictionLubricate the stem raising the dust cover with a layer of silicon grease. If the noise persists, replace the shock absorber    Op. 4410A12 FRONT SUSPENSION DAMPER (ONE), LH OR RH - FOR MCPHERSON STRUT SYSTEM - INCLUDES DISMANTLING/REASSEMBLY OF ASSEMBLY AT BENCH - R.R
