PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ACCESS

The "Vehicle Protection System" with central locking for the doors and the boot using a remote control has been designed with a high level of protection against a break in.The Body Computer manages the electric locks and controls as listed below:- Locking/unlocking motor in front doors and rear doors- Motor with dead-lock in front doors and rear doors (for HIGH version only)- Boot release actuator- Door/tailgate open indicator- Switch in key pawl for driver''s front door only for central locking using mechanical key- Passenger compartment interior button for locking/unlocking doors- Passenger compartment interior button for opening tailgate- Boot light control.

Remote control

The radiofrequency remote control is fitted with a rectractable mechanical insert. It has an operating radius of about twenty metres. It works in conjunction with the central locking and has three buttons which perform the following functions:
1 - Opening button2 - Closing button3 - Boot buttonOpening buttonThe following takes place when it is pressed once briefly: door unlocking + relative dead-lock (if fitted) + courtesy light on: two blinks confirm the commands. The following takes place when it is pressed twice briefly: unlocking of all the doors + courtesy lights on + dead-lock.The following takes place when it is pressed for a while (more than 2 seconds): opening of windows and sun roof + courtesy lights on, when the button is released the windows and the roof stop in their current position.Closing buttonThe following takes place when it is pressed once briefly: locking of doors + boot + courtesy light off: one blink confirms the commands. The following takes place when it is pressed twice briefly: engagement of dead-lock (if fitted). The following takes place when it is pressed for a while (more than 2 seconds): closing of windows and sun roof + courtesy lights off, when the button is released the windows and the roof stop in their current position.
If the battery is run down, 100 activations are still guaranteed with the correct transmission of the data.
FUEL FLAP:the fuel flap is opened manually, whilst the cap on the tank is opened using a mechanical key.

Mechanical key

There are two types of mechanical key: extractable or with a fixed insert.Extractable key
A - Key closedB - Key extracted1 - Key extraction buttonMechanical key

Signalling led

A RED LED is located in the trim located in the centre of the dashboard. The LED signals the following conditions:- locking of the locks: the LED lights up for 3 seconds. If some of the doors or the boot are not properly shut at the time when the locks are locked, the LED flashes rapidly for 3 seconds- switching on of dead-lock function: following the engagement of the dead-lock function, the LED flashes twice for 0.5 secs and then moves on to a deterrent signal- deterrence: once the door lock signal has been issued, the LED flashes rapidly to indicate that the vehicle is locked (dissuasion function): the flashing ends when the locks are later unlocked.

Operation

Central locking of locks from the outsideThe door locks can be locked centrally by inserting the mechanical key in the driver''s door lock and turning it anti-clockwise or by using the special button on the remote control. The locking of the doors is only activated if all the doors are shut. If one or more of the doors is open, after the button on the remote control is pressed, the direction indicators and the LED in the driver''s door will flash quickly for around 3 seconds. If one or more of the doors is open, the LED in the dashboard will also flash quickly for about 3 seconds. If the doors are shut but the boot is open, the doors will be locked: the direction indicators (only on versions with remote control) and the LED will flash rapidly for about 3 seconds.Central unlocking of locks from the outsideThe door locks can be unlocked centrally by inserting the mechanical key in the driver''s door lock and turning it clockwise or by using the special button on the remote control. The interior courtesy lights coming on with a timed delay and a double flash of the direction indicators signals that the unlocking has taken place. In this case the button must be pressed twice quickly to unlock all the doors.Central locking/unlocking of the locks from the insidePressing the button in the centre of the dashboard locks/unlocks all the doors. The button has an LED that indicates the status (doors locked or unlocked): when the doors are locked the LED is on and pressing the button produces the central unlocking of all the doors and the LED goes out; when, on the other hand, the doors are unlocked, the LED is off and pressing the button produces the central locking of all the doors. The locking of the doors is only activated if all the doors are properly shut.
Following the locking of the doors using:- remote control;- door catch;
they cannot be unlocked using the button in the dashboard.
With the central locking on, pulling the interior opening lever for one of the doors causes the closure for all the doors to be released. If there is no electrical power supply (battery disconnected, etc.) the doors can be locked manually.
Dead-lock mode (for high version only)This is a safety device that inhibits the operation of:- interior handles;- locking/unlocking button;thereby preventing the opening of the doors from inside the passenger compartment if there has been a break in attempt (e.g. breaking a window). The dead-lock device is therefore offers the best post protection against break in attempts. The dead-lock function is engaged by pressing the door locking button on the remote control twice (within a second). If one or more of the doors are not properly shut, the dead-lock is not switched on: this prevents someone from entering the vehicle through an open door and then getting locked inside when they close the door. The switching on/off of the dead-lock function is confirmed by the direction indicators flashing 3 times and the signal LED flashing. The function is switched off automatically for all the doors in the following cases:- if the key is turned twice in the driver''s door;- unlocking the doors using the remote control;- turning the ignition key to the ON position. The dead-lock function also inhibits the door locking/unlocking button in the passenger compartment.
It is possible to get out of the passenger compartment with the dead-lock switched on.
If the battery is run down/not working properly or disconnected, the dead-lock function can only be switched off in a door that has a catch using the mechanical key from the outside; the dead-lock function remains operational for the other doors !
Child locksThere is a mechanism on both rear doors that makes it possible to switch the child locks on/off mechanically: with the child locks on the rear doors cannot be opened from inside the passenger compartment using the interior handles, but only from the outside with the door unlocked.
The child-proof locks on/off status is not signalled.Automatic central lockingThe automatic locking function for the doors can be enabled or disabled when the speed of the vehicle exceeds 20 km/h using the set up menu in the instrument panel.Opening/closing windowsAll the windows in the doors can be closed when the doors are closed by keeping the key turned in the closed position or by pressing the button in the remote control for a while. The windows continue to move as long as the key is turned. In the same way the windows can be opened when the locks in the doors are unlocked.Unlocking doors using inertia switchThe status of the inertia switch is acquired directly by the Body Computer and it controls the unlocking of all the doors. The inertia switch also unlocks the boot. The Body Computer replicates the lock unlocking command, for a second time after the command sent previously.

ELECTRIC WINDOWS

The electric window controls for both the front doors (fitted as standard) and the rear doors (optional on the 5 door version) are located on the driver''s front door.
1 - Front door controls2 - Rear door controls3 - Rear door locking

Operation of front electric windows (low version)

Version without automatic function: the front electric windows can only be activated manually: the window is started and stopped manually by the user by pressing the special control; when the control is released, the motor stops. On both sides, the window opening function is only activated with the ignition on, with the following exception: after a key off, the front windows can be operated manually for a period of 3 minutes. When this timed period elapses the system no longer acquires new commands. If one of the front doors is opened during this period, the system no longer allows the movement of the windows until a new key on.If one of the doors is already open at a key off, the windows cannot be moved.Version with driver''s side automatic function: the driver''s window opening mechanism can be activated both manually and automatically. The passenger side window can only be activated manually.Automatic operation takes place as follows:- if the button is pressed is between 60 and 300 milliseconds, operation is manual. the glass goes up/down only with the key pressed;- f the key is pressed for longer than 300 milliseconds, operation is automatic: even if the button is released, the window continues to close/open until it is in the end of travel position;- pressing the button again whilst the window is moving stops it in the position it is in;- if the button is pressed for less than 60 milliseconds, this is ignored (it is treated as an accidental knock).- if the button is pressed for less than 60 milliseconds, this is ignored (it is treated as an accidental knock). On both sides, the window opening function is only activated with the ignition on, with the following exception: after a key off, the front windows can be operated manually for a period of 3 minutes. When this timed period elapses the system no longer acquires new commands. If one of the front doors is opened during this period, the system no longer allows the movement of the windows until a new key on.If one of the doors is already open at a key off, the windows cannot be moved.

Operation of front electric windows (high version with 4 electric windows)

All the window opening mechanisms can be operated both manually and automatically, following the logic described below:- if the button is pressed is between 60 and 300 milliseconds, operation is manual. the glass goes up/down only with the key pressed;- f the key is pressed for longer than 300 milliseconds, operation is automatic: even if the button is released, the glass continues to move up/down until the end of travel position is reached or until the intervention of the anti-crush safety system (if fitted);- pressing the button again whilst the window is moving stops it in the position it is in;- if the button is pressed for less than 60 milliseconds, this is ignored (it is treated as an accidental knock). For all the windows the window opening function is only activated with the ignition on, with the following exception: after a key off, the front windows can be operated manually or automatically for a period of 3 minutes. When this timed period elapses the system no longer acquires new commands. If one of the doors is opened during the timed period, new commands are longer acquired, but any commands received before the opening of the door are brought to a conclusion. If one of the doors is already open at the key off, any commands received before the opening of the door are brought to a conclusion.

Centralized window activation (with 4 electric windows)

This is a function that allows the side windows to be completely closed in a single operation. All the windows in the doors can be closed when the doors are closed by keeping the key turned in the closed position or by pressing the button in the remote control for a while. In the same way the windows can be opened when the locks in the doors are unlocked.
The activation of the centralized window opening/closing is not simultaneous for the 4 windows, but responds to a programmed sequence.

Anti-crush safety function

The anti-crush function ensures the reversal of the direction of the window any time the presence of an object is detected (e.g. a finger, hand, etc.) in the path of the window thereby preventing it being accidentally crushed. This function confers a high level of safety especially in there are any children on board who activate the windows accidentally. The super-opening and super-closing of the windows can be activated on leaving the vehicle. The anti-crush safety function is activated during both manual and automatic operation. There are two "inversion zones" and "non inversion zones" for the anti-crush safety system:ns- the "inversion zone" corresponds to the space between 200 mm from the upper edge and the upper edge itself;- the "non inversion zone" corresponds to the remaining space. If the presence of an obstacle in the "inversion zone" is detected whilst the window is moving upwards, the system should interrupt the upwards movement and reverse it immediately. If, on the other hand, the presence of an obstacle is detected in the "non reversal zone", the system should only interrupt the upwards movement of the window. No type of command is accepted during this period.
If the anti-crush protection intervenes five consecutive times within a minute or is faulty, the automaic closing operation of the window is inhibited only allowing it in steps
