With the engine idling and warmed up, with all the consumers switched off, the battery voltage should be between 12 and 15 V. The test is considered overMove on to Step 4
Start the engine and let it reach a speed of 3000 rpm. Measure the voltage between the positive pole of the battery    See A001 BATTERY and the earth, checking that it is in a range between 13 and 14.8 VReplace the alternator    Op. 5530A10 ALTERNATOR - R+R
Turn the ignition OFF. Measure the voltage between the positive battery pole    See A001 BATTERY and the earth, checking it is greater than 11 VCarry out the    See Test 5530BC CHECK BATTERY CHARGE STATUS
Turn the ignition ON and switch off all the consumers.Turn the ignition key OFF.Disconnect cable loom connector A from the engine management control unit. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and earth pin 72 (wiring side) of the control unit several times    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pins 1 and 5 (wiring side) of the control unit    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and the Earth, checking it is greater than 11 V.Move on to Step 12Move on to Step 7
Turn the ignition OFF. Extract relay T7 from the socket in the engine compartment junction unit (it is the first one at the top of the bottom left row).Connect a shunt cable with a fuse to Pins 30 and 87 of the base unit.Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pin 1 (wiring side) of the control unit    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and earth checking that it is less than 11 Ohm. Move on to Step 18Move on to Step 8
Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pins 30 and 86 of the base and the earth, checking that it is greater than 11 V. Move on to Step 18Move on to Step 9
In the engine compartment junction unit    See B001 JUNCTION UNIT extract fuse F27 from the socket (it is the fourth from the top in the left row).Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between the fuse input contact and earth, checking that it is greater than 11 V.Move on to Step 11Move on to Step 10
If faults are present, repair or if necessary replace the electrical wiring between the engine compartment junction unit and the battery    See E1010 POWER SUPPLY The test can be considered overReplace the junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
Replace the engine compartment junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R. The test can be considered over
Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pin 28 (wiring side) of the control unit    See M010 ENGINE MANAGEMENT ECU and Earth, checking it is less than 11 VReplace the engine management control unit    Op. 1060G80 DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTION CONTROL UNIT - R.R
Turn the ignition key OFF.Extract fuse F20 from the base in the engine compartment junction unit (it is the third from the left in the second row from the bottom). Turn the ignition key to the ON position.Connect a (21 W) test bulb and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between the fuse input contact and earth, checking that it is less than 11 V.Move on to Step 15Move on to Step 14
If faults are present, repair or, if necessary, replace the electrical wiring between the engine management control unit and the engine compartment junction unit.    See E5050 DIESEL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The test can be considered overReplace the junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
Turn the ignition key OFF.Extract relay T8 from the base in the engine compartment junction unit (it is the first from the bottom in the right lower row).Connect a (21 W) test lamp and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pins 30 of the base unit and earth, checking that it is greater than 11 V.Move on to Step 10
Reinsert fuse F20 in the engine compartment junction unit base.Connect a bridge with a fuse to Pins 30 and 87 of the base unit of relay T8.Connect a test bulb (21 W) and a multimeter in parallel and measure the voltage between pin 11 (wiring side) of the junction unit    See B001 JUNCTION UNIT and the Earth, checking it is greater than 11 VReplace the engine compartment junction unit    Op. 5505A13 ADDITIONAL JUNCTION UNIT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT - R.R.
Replace the relay T8The test may be considered completed
