199002173 - INTRODUCTION - PEDAL ASSEMBLY

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

There is a pedal assembly on the vehicle, separated from the power unit, consisting of a plastic mounting with the clutch and accelerator pedals also made from plastic with the brake pedal remaining in steel. The solution adopted has been it possible to fit a 10" increased brake servo and produce a significant reduction in weight. The arrangement of the pedals has been improved, in terms of ergonomics, taking into considerations values that measure the angles of the heel and the position of and space between the actual pedals. On versions with a robotized gearbox the pedal assembly does not have a clutch pedal as this function is carried out automatically. The accelerator pedal incorporates two potentiometers, a main one and a safety one, which transmit the extent of the movement of the actual pedal to the control unit which implements the consequent throttle opening. The pedal assembly has a device that allows the pedals to collapse in the case of an impact, keeping intrusion into the passenger compartment to a minimum and consequently likewise any injuries to the lower limbs.
1. Brake pedal with collapse deviceThe pedal assembly has the following advantages:- low braking distances with low loads on the pedal and reduced response times even in emergency situations;- responsive and gradual braking action;- effective braking at top levels in the segment.
