1. Fit the tool (1a) complete with dial gauge (1b) in the seat for the spark plug for cylinder no. 1.

Turn the crankshaft through slight regular movements until the piston for cylinder 1 is at TDC on the dial gauge.With the piston set to TDC as described above, adjust the camshaft timing.1. Fit the tools (1a) for timing the camshafts and secure them using the nuts (1b) inserting the tooth (1c) in the splining (1d) on the camshafts.

The letters "A" (aspirazione - inlet) and "S" (scarico - exhaust) are stampted on the tools to ensure that the shafts are correctly positioned. The tools are therefore not interchangeable.

1. Undo the bolt (1a) and fit the tool (1b) for tensioning the toothed timing drive belt.

2. Using the tool tension the toothed timing drive belt until it is in the maximum tension position, i.e. with the tensioner moving reference in the end of travel position.3. Tighten the nut fixing the moving timing tensioner to the recommended torque.

1. Tighten the bolts (1a) fixing the timing driven pulleys to torque using the tool (1b) fitted with a suitable adapator.

Remove the probe tool complete with dial gauge from the seat for cylinder no. 1.

Rotate the crankshaft throught two revolutions in its normal direction of rotation.1. Loosen the nut retaining the timing belt moving tensioner.2. Using the tool (2a) slowly discharge the toothed timing belt tension until the moving reference (2b) is in line with the fixed reference (2c).

Tighten the nut fixing the moving timing tensioner to the recommended torque.

Remove the tool for tensioning the toothed timing drive belt and tighten the bolt removed for positioning.

It is advisable to recheck the timing by refitting the tools on the camshafts and checking that the first cylinder is at T.D.C. using the dial gauge and the extension. If the engine timing is not correct or there are problems with the timing belt, the procedure must be repeated.
