223002993 - E5050 DIESEL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION (MY 2005)

Engine management control unit M10 controls and governs the entire electronic ignition and injection system. The ignition-operated power supply (15/54) arrives via a line protected by fuse F16 of the engine compartment junction unit B01 at pin 23 of connector A of M10 .Main injection relay R9 of B01 controls the entire system; the supply line is protected by fuse F18 of B01. This is excited by a control signal (earth) from pin 80 of connector A of control unit M10 and thus issues a power supply.- to pin 5 of connector A of the control unit, via the line protected by fuse F17 of B01 ;- to pins 4 and 5 of connector A of the actual control unit, via the line protected by fuse F22 of B01;- to EGR solenoid L30, speedometer sensor K84, glow plug control unit M15 (pin 3 of connector A), lambda sensor K40 pin 5 of connector B of M10 via a line protected by fuse F11 of B01.Fuel pump relay R10 of B01 is supplied directly from the battery via a line protected by fuse F21 of B01.It is energized by a control signal coming from pin 85 of connector A of control unit M10 and provides the power supply for the electric fuel pump N40 which is earthed via the inertia switch I50 which interrupts the circuit in the case of an impact and stops the dangerous supply of fuel.Pins 1, 2 and 3 of connector A of M10 are earthed.Control unit M15 that manages the preheating of plugs A40 is supplied directly from the battery via a line protected by shunt fuse B37 and via fuse F11 located in junction unit B01 at pin 3 of connector A.Control unit M15 also supplies glow plugs A40 via connector C and exchanges command and control signals with pins 74 and 70 of connector A of M10 that controls the timing. The engine management control unit M10 receives signals from the various sensors thereby keeping all the engine operating parameters under control.Rpm sensor K46 supplies, via a frequency signal exchanged with pins 43 and 59 of connector B of control unit M10 , information on engine speed.Timing sensor K47 is supplied from pin 21 of connector B of M10 . It receives a reference earath from pin 56 of connector B of control unit M10 and on the way to this, a frequency signal corresponding to the phase at pin 25 of connector B.Engine temperature sensor K36 receives a reference earth from pin 29 of connector B of control unit M10 , and sends a signal proportional to engine coolant temperature to pin 54 of connector B .The air flow meter K41 - receiving an ignition-controlled supply (INT from the steering lock control unit) via the line protected by fuse F35 of junction unit B002 - receives a reference earth from pin 27 of connector B of M010 and sends pin 14 of connector B a signal proportional to the air flow rate.An air temperature sensor inside K41 also sends an air temperature signal to pin 10 of connector B of M010 .In order to activate the operation of the Lambda sensor K040 quickly, the engine management control unit M010 controls the heater through an earth signal from pin 46 of connector A.The control unit M10 sends a "pumping" current from pin 47 of connector A to sensor K40 which is compared with the calibrated value received from pin 44 of connector A. The Lambda sensor receives a reference earth from pin 12 of connector A of M10 and sends a voltage signal proportional to the percentage value of oxygen measured in the exhaust gases at pin 45 of connector A of control unit M10.The accelerator pedal K55 has two built in potentiometers (one main one and one safety one). The former receives power and earth signals from pins 35 and 83 of connector A of M10 and sends a corresponding signal to pin 65 of connector A. The second receives power and earth from pins 15 and 32 of connector A of M10 and sends a signal to pin 41 of connector A.Fuel temperature sensor K100 detects the temperature of the incoming diesel fuel. It receives a reference earth from pin 13 of connector A of M10 and sends a fuel temperature signal to pin 61 of the control unit. The turbocharging sensor K82 measures the pressure and the temperature in the intake chamber, downstream of the turbocharger. It is supplied by pin 24 of connector B of M10 and receives a reference earth from pin 23 of connector B. The signal corresponding to the pressure value is sent to pin 41 of control unit connector B of control unit M10.Fuel pressure sensor K83 supplies the injection control unit with a feedback signal to modulate injection pressure and duration. It receives power and a reference earth from pins 38 and 6 of connector B of M10 ; it then sends a pressure signal to pin 8 of connector B.Body computer M01 receives the value from speedometer sensor K84 at pin 17 of connector C.Control unit M10 receives - at pin 9 of connector B - a negative signal from the engine oil minimum pressure sensor K30 .Pin 92 of connector A of M10 receives the N.O. signal coming from the brake lights switch I30 with an ignition-controlled supply (INT) from fuse F37 of junction unit B02.    See E2021 BRAKE LIGHTSPin 68 of connector A of M10 receives the N.C. signal coming from the brake lights switch I30 with an ignition-controlled supply (INT) from fuse F35 of junction unit B02.Pin 93 of connector A of M10 receives the signal coming from the clutch switch I31.The water presence sensor in diesel filter K31 ; is supplied by the ignition-controlled line (INT) of fuse F35 of B02 , and sends the corresponding signal to pin 90 of connector A of M10 .Fuel pressure regulator N87 maintains fuel pressure constant in the accumulator. Both control signals come from pins 4 and 34 of connector B of control unit M10 .The EGR solenoid L30 controls exhaust gas recirculation. It is supplied by a line from fuse F11 of B01 , and is controlled by a signal from pin 15 of connector B of M10 .Injectors N70 are connected to hte engine control unit from pins 47-16, 49-17, 48-31, 46-1 for cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.Control unit M10 is connected via pins 58, 59 of connector A (line CAN), to body computer M01 and instrument panel E50.The instrument panel displays the engine rpm and signals from control unit M10 to light up the warning lights:- heater plugs;- EOBD and engine management system failure;- minimum oil pressure;- max coolant temperature;- fuel reserve;- water in fuel filter warning light. The autodiagnostic data can be read by connecting to connector B of the Body Computer M01 - pin 7: it receives signals from pin 88 of connector A of control unit M10 via the special diagnostic line.
