Remove a front wheel, proceed as in the example    Op. 4450B02 LEFT FRONT WHEEL - R.R..1. Remove the brake caliper oil pipe from the shock absorber support after having removed the safety clip.2. Undo the bolts securing the shock absorbers to the strut.
Lower the vehicle.1. Undo the bolts (1) securing the upper shock absorber attachment to the body and remove the bracket (1b).2. Remove the front shock absorber.
1. Position the front shock absorber (1a) on the pneumatic spring compression tool (1b).

2. Secure shock absorber with strut retaining device (2a) and spring compression brackets (2b)3. Connect compressed air pipe (3a) to the tool and operate lever (3b) to blow in air under pressure and compress the shock absorber spring.4. Use tool (4a) and hexagonal wrench (4b) to secure the shock absorber rod, unscrew shock absorber nut (4c) and remove the block and shock absorber flange (4d).

Operate on the lever on the device to turn off the air supply. Wait until the spring releases and remove the front suspension from the device.1. Withdraw spring (1a), gaiter with block (1b) and end stop ring (1c) of shock absorber (1d).
Refitting ( Removing )
Before refitting the front shock absorber components, check that there are no signs of cracks or distortions in the spring which would adversely affect its operation. Also check the condition of the gaiter. If there are surface cuts or cracks replace the gaiter itself
Refit the end stop ring.Refit the gaiter onto the rear shock absorber.Refit the spring onto the shock absorber.Reposition the shock absorber assembly onto the pneumatic device.

Position the spring fully home on the relevant end stop ring.Secure the shock absorber with the strut block retaining device and with the appropriate brackets for compressing the spring.Compress the shock absorber spring.1. Fit the flange, aligning groove (1a) with spring (1b).2. Fit the block with bearing. Adjust in accordance with required caster angle: (2a) (caster 2° 6'' - manual steering), (2b) (caster 3° 6'' - hydraulic steering); the diagram shows:- the two possible fitting solutions for a left shock absorber- the direction of travel of the vehicle.3. Use tool (3a) and an appropriate hexagonal wrench (3b) to hold the shock absorber rod in place, then tighten nut (3c) securing the upper block.

When the shock absorber retaining bolts are tightened to the upper hub pillar, push in the direction and at the point indicated by the arrow so that holes (1d) are in contact with bolts (1d) and any fastening clearances are taken up.
Fit the brake caliper pipe to the fitting on the shock absorber and reposition the safety clip.
When fitting the hose onto the bracket, check the rubber block is correctly fitted to prevent the hose coming into contact with parts of the car at any wheel travel or steering position.
Refit the front wheel, proceed as in the example    Op. 4450B02 LEFT FRONT WHEEL - R.R..Lower the car and rest the wheels on the ground.1. Secure the shock absorber stem by means of a hexagonal wrench and tighten the upper block retaining nut by interposing tool (1b).

To obtain the exact tightening torque, multiply the length of torque wrench (A) by nominal tightening torque (C). Then divide the result by the sum of the length of torque wrench (A) and the length of tool (B).Example: calculate the true setting using a torque wrench of length 0.4 m to tighten a fastening element with a torque rating of 8.5 daNm: (A X C): (A + B) = (0.4 m x 8.5 daNm) : (0.4 m + 0.06 m) = 7.4 daNm
