Removing ( Refitting ) - Position the vehicle on the lift.- Remove the front wheel. 1. Lift up the steering wheel adjustment lever.2. Undo the panel fixing bolts.3. Remove the panel, releasing it from the inner retainers.
1. Undo the bolts fixing the oddments pocket.2. Remove the oddments pocket.
1. Undo the panel fixing bolts.2. Remove the panel.
1. Undo the bolts fixing the relay and fuse box.2. Move the relay and fuse box.
1. Position a hydraulic jack under the front suspension involved and place it gently in contact.
1. Steering in the direction concerned (to facilitate access to the fixing bolts).2. Loosen the bolts fixing the shock absorber to the suspension.
1. Working in the area of the dashboard, remove the protection.2. Undo the upper bolts (2a) fixing the shock absorber (2b).
1. Lower the jack until the suspension can almost be detached, then undo the bolts fixing the shock absorber to the suspension.2. Remove the front shock absorber assembly.3. Move the pipe support.
1. Fit the shock absorber assembly using the special tool.

1. After having compressed the coil spring, release it undoing the fixing nut using the special tools.

Before dismantling the assembly, check that the shock absorber slides freely along the guides of tool 1.874.555.000. Do not, under any circumstances, use any tools for leverage to try and facilitate the extraction of the spring.
1. If there are any faults in the shock absorber, it should be replaced in one piece.2. Make sure that the coil spring does not show signs of cracks or distortion that could adversely effect its operation. The coil springs are divided into two categories, identifiable by a stripe of white paint (10 q - 14 q) or blue paint (maxi). Springs with the same colour markings must be fitted.3. Check the condition of the other shock absorber components:- coil spring cover (3a);- mounting (3b) fixing shock absorber to bodyshell;- seal (3c);- nut (3d) fixing shock absorber to mounting.
Refitting ( Removing ) 1. Fit the shock absorber assembly using the special tool.

3. Using tool 1.857.167.000 as an extension for the torque wrench, alter the nominal tightening torque using the following formula: C spanner = C nominal x (A / (A+B))
- Check that the shock absorber assembly is not damaged.- Place the shock absorber assembly and the pipe support in position.- With the help of the jack, screw in the lower bolts fixing the shock absorber to the suspension without tightening them.- Tighten the upper bolts fixing the shock absorber to the bodyshell.

- Tighten the lower bolts fixing the shock absorber to the suspension.
