244002481 - E5050 DIESEL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

Operational Description

Engine management control unit M010 controls and governs the entire electronic ignition and injection system.Engine bay control unit B001 houses fuses F02, F11, F17, F18, F20, F21, F22, and relays T19, T09, T10, designed to protect and control the supply to engine management unit M010 and the various sensors and solenoids.Main injection relay T09 controls the entire system: it is energized by an earth signal from pin 13 of connector A of engine control unit M010 and then forwards a power supply:

  • to pin 4 of the control unit via the line of fuse F17 of B001;
  • to pin 5 of the control unit via the line of fuse F22 of B001;
  • to sensors: L005, L062, L030, K041, L085;
  • thermal starter O004.
Fuel pump relay T10 of B001 is supplied by the line of fuse F21.This is energized by a control signal (earth) from pin 24 of control unit M010 and supplies power to fuel pump and EPIC level gauge N041.Pins 1, 2 and 3 of M10 are earthed.Diesel preheating relay T19 is supplied by the line protected by fuse F20.It is energized by an (earth) control signal coming from pin 110 connector B of control unit M010 and provides a power supply for the diesel heating resistance O020 - pin 3 connector A. The power supply reaches this resistance at pin 2 connector B along the line protected by fuse F11. Pin 3 of connector B and 4 of connector A are earthed whilst pin 1 of connector B provides the water in the filter signal.Relay J131 governs the power supply thermal starter coil O004. The power supply to the relay comes from a line protected by fuse F11. Engine management unit M010 excites the coil of J131 via an earth signal from pin 15 of connector A. The power supply supplied to coil O004 comes directly from the battery and is protected by fuse F02.Alternatively, the diesel is preheated by means of the HEAT-FLANGE system. The system heats air coming into the input manifold by means of a glow coil. Relay J131 receives an earth signal from engine management unit M010 - pin 15 connector A - and supplies power supply direct from the battery to resistance device O003. A dedicated fuse F74 protects the power supply from the resistance load.Control unit M010 receives signals from the various sensors in order to control all engine service parameters.Engine temperature sensor K036 communicates with engine management unit M010 at pins 82 and 83 of connector B.Air flow meter K041 receives a general power supply from fuse F11 of B001. It receives a reference voltage from pin 88 of M010. This is supplied by the control unit from pin 97 of M010 and sends a signal proportional to the air flow to pin 89. An air temperature sensor, also housed in K041, sends an air temperature signal to pin 86 of M010.Accelerator pedal K055 contains two integral potentiometers (a main one and a safety one).The former receives power and an earth signal from pins 78 and 76 of M010 respectively and sends a corresponding signal to pin 77. The latter receives power and an earth signalfrom pins 81 and 79 respectively and sends a signal to pin 80.EGR solenoid L030 controls exhaust gas recirculation. It is supplied by a line protected by fuse F11 and is controlled by a signal from pin 16 connector A of M010.The solenoid on throttle body L062 reduces and closes the throttle opening, e.g. when the engine is turned off. It is supplied by a line protected by fuse F11 and is controlled by a signal from pin 15 connector A of M010.Injectors N070 receive a power supply to enable opening from pins 117 (cylinders 1 and 2) and 118 (cylinders 3 and 4) of M010.The engine management unit sends a command to injectors N070 from 119, 120, 121 and 114 for cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.The engine management control unit M010 is connected from pins 99, 100 and 102, 103, 104 with the rpm sensor. K046 and with the timing sensor K047.    See E4020 REV COUNTER INSTRUMENTEngine management unit M010 is equipped with a CAN connection - from pins 9 and 10 connector A - to ABS control unit M050 - pins 29 and 30 -.Engine management unit M010 governs activation of the warning lights on instrument panel E050 from pins 21 and 14 of connector A if the injection system malfunctions.
