The following preliminary operations must be carried out before removing and refitting the pretensioner for the lumbar branch of the front seat belt:(1) turn the ignition key to the OFF position and extract it;(2) disconnect the battery terminals and insulate them;(3) wait for at least 10 minutes before continuing.

Op. 5580C AIR BAG SYSTEM - Straighten the front wheels, then engage the first steering lock to the right and remove the ignition key.- Keep the steering column adjustment lever closed during all the removing-refitting stages. Undo the bolt (1a) and disconnect the steering column joint (1b) from the steering box.

1. Disconnect the electrical connections for the electric steering control.

2. Cut the lower band for the dashboard trim along the line shown using a suitable blade.

1. Undo the nuts (1a) and the bolts (1b) and remove the electrically operated steering assembly.

Refitting ( Removing

) 1. Fit the electrically operated steering assembly and tighten the nuts (1a) and the bolts (1b) to the recommended torque.

1. Make 3 holes in the section of the dashboard trim cut previously.2. Using a thin metal plate of the size illustrated in the diagram, secure it using rivets to the cut edges of the dashboard trim.

1. Connect the electrical connections for the electric steering control.

1. Connect the joint (1a) for the steering column to the steering box and tighten the fixing bolt (1b) to the recommended torque.
