312001327 - 5580PQ CHECK ON NAVIGATOR OPERATION AT INSTRUMENT PANEL ACTIVE MATRIX (Blue&Me)

The navigation map is read using the USB pen inserted in the port in the centre consoleThe navigator calculates the vehicle position via the satellite signal using the wheel revolutions, vehicle speed and reversing signal
STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1Preliminary checks

  • Check that the map is consistent with the vehicle model. In NAV mode, check that the number of satellites is at least 3, which indicates that the satellite reception is correct. If the reading for the number of satellites is less than 3, then the reception is not good enough to locate the vehicle. It is probably a question of insufficient coverage. In this case try and move the vehicle to an area where there is good reception or compare the reception with other cars located in the same place.
The satellite reception test should be carried out in an open area. In this case, without a comparison there is not enough to say whether the navigation circuit inside the convergence control unit is defective or not
Move on to Step 2
2Satellite aerial check

Check:

  • The connection for the satellite aerial and the electrical continuity between the convergence and aerial connector
  • The correct 5 Volt power supply at the satellite aerial connector
Restore the connector/wiring between the satellite aerial and convergence control unitReplace the satellite aerial if defective. If the aerial power supply is interrupted at the convergence control unit output, replace the convergence control unit    Op. 5570T49 BLUETOOTH ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT - R.R. If no faults have been detected in the previous checks replace the convergence control unit    Op. 5570T49 BLUETOOTH ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT - R.R.
3Road test to check correct operation

  • Exit in NAV mode
  • Check that the arrow moves consistently with the vehicle speed, otherwise check the presence of the mileometer signal at the CAN.
  • Check that the arrow changes direction in line with the vehicle. If the arrow does not change direction this means that the convergence is broken and the control unit should be replaced
  • Enter a destination and activate route calculation. Wait for the first instruction and the route to appear on the screen and check that it is correct.
Irregular instructions: before or after junctions, arrow out of position - may be due to map that is not up to date: a missing instruction stems from the fact that a road is not on the map because it has not been processed in digital form or the road network has been changed compared with the one on the map.The navigator calculates the vehicle position both through the satellite signal and using the wheel revolutions. Problems of accuracy may arise when:The odometer speed signal and reversing signal are not received correctly.Occasions when the navigation system should be initialised:

  • The vehicle is being transported with the battery disconnected and travelling in a tunnel (the navigator loses the references).
  • Immediately after having changed the tyres (since the wheel rpm/distance conversion factor is not accurate).
  • On replacement of the Central Console
To initialize the navigator it is necessary to drive about 50 km in optimum satellite reception conditions. If all the tests have highlighted no defects, then the problem lies with the Central Console, which should therefore be replaced.
Connect an EXAMINER and check the following on CAN INFORMATION

  • No faulty control units.
  • No faulty CAN.
  • If there are errors, continue as indicated by the diagnostic equipment.
