2. Undo the fixing bolts (2a) and remove the Air Bag control unit (2b).
Do not strike or shake the control unit. If the control unit is dropped or suffers an impact, it must be replaced. Do not connect the electrial connections to the control unit before having correctly secured the control unit. Make sure that the battery is disconnected.
In the case of replacement, remove the detachable part of the adhesive label from the new module and place it in the special folder containing the vehicle details (model, registration date, chassis number) and the serial number of the old control unit. The file should be kept for future checks.
Refitting ( Removing )
After each activation of one of the controlled systems (pretensioners, front airbags, sidebags), the control unit stores the activation in its permanent memory and controls activation of the fault warning light on the instrument panel. Before it is replaced, the control unit guarantees individual device activation for a maximum number of:- 3 impacts with activation of the seat belt pretensioners alone;- 3 impacts in total (right or left) with sidebag activation;- 1 impact with activation of the pretensioners and front airbags;- any combination of the above cases up to the maximum number. If one of the limits described is not reached, it will be possible to reuse the control unit after carrying out the RESET procedure using the EXAMINER once system operating conditions have been restored. The final activation, corresponding to the maximum number for the limits indicated above, will prevent further reset procedures.
1. Place the Air Bag control unit (1a) in position and tighten the fixing bolts (1b) to the recommended torque.

Some of the CAN nodes, including the Air Bag control unit, are programmed with default settings that the customer will find when they purchase the vehicle. If the control unit is being replaced, the Parts Dept. will send a pristine component: once fitted, the data memorized in the Body Computer must be transferred to it by carrying out the PROXY ALIGNMENT procedure using the Examiner.
