312000687 - L016 CLIMATE CONTROL RECIRCULATION NOT WORKING

The recirculation function does not work when the special button in the switch panel is pressed.
Test results
1CLIMATE CONTROL NODE CORRECT OPERATION CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
When the vehicle engine is running, set the climate control system ECU to AUTO, operate the temperature knob to 22°C, set the fan speed to 8 bars and then press the recirculation key (check that the recirculation symbol appears on the display). Then feel the changes in air flow during flap open/closure. Also locate the grille in the engine compartment for the air intake casing and check the air intake when switching from recirculation to outside air intake.
"When the control unit is set to the FULL AUTO function and the outside temperature is below 3°C the air intake flap opens automatically to prevent the windscreen from misting up".
Move on to Step 21. The recirculation symbol does not appear on the display2. The recirculation symbol appears on the display (but the recirculation does not operate)1. Move on to Step 32. Move on to Step 2
2CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and check:

  • that there are no errors in the air recirculation actuator.

3CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Keeping the Examiner diagnostic equipment connected, check, through active diagnosis,

  • the correct operation of the air recirculation actuator
  • correct activation of all the graphic LCD symbols on the display.
Move on to Step 61. Air recirculation actuator not working2. The recirculation symbol does not come on1. Move on to Step 42. Replace the climate control system control unitOp. 5040D14
4ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose.Remove the control unit from the panel mount, disconnect the wiring connector from the control unit, check visually for any damage to the connector and reconnect correctly to check for false contacts.Remove the oddments pocket and disconnect the connector, inspecting visually for any damage to it and reconnect the electrical connector to the actuator.Move on to Step 5Electrical wiring connections loose or damaged.Refit the electrical connections correctly.
5RECIRCULATION MOTOR CORRECT OPERATION CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Then proceed as follows: with the vehicle running, switch on the air recirculation function manually with the fan at the maximum speed. If the actuator works and the flap is operated, check by feeling that the air flow varies when it is moved. Deactivate the function by returning the actuator to its original position. Identify the grille on the vehicle for the air intake casing and check the air intake between the recirculation and the outside air and vice versa by feeling by hand.If the result is positive, do not replace the actuator. If there are further doubts as to the operation of the actuator, it is possible to carry out the check following the instructions described below if the air intake casing is easily accessible.    See Test 5040DE SEQUENTIAL PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING RECIRCULATION ACTUATOR OPERATIONMove on to Step 6Incorrect operation of recirculation actuator.Replace the recirculation actuatorOp. 5040D53 AIR INTAKE AND RECIRCULATION FLAP ACTUATOR - R RFOR VERSION WITH PASSENGER AIRBAG
6RECIRCULATION ACTUATOR FLAP CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Visually inspect that the air recirculation actuator flap completes its travel without any hinderance.End of diagnosis1. Flap travel incomplete.2. Flap damaged.3. Kinematic components/gears damaged.1. Free the air recirculation actuator flap from the impediment.2. Replace the flap.3. Restore kinematic components correctly.
