The function of the windscreen washer/wiper can only be operated when the key is in the MAR (ON) position and is exclusive to the ignition phase (INT/A).The windscreen wiper system is operated by the stalk switch located to the right of the steering wheel.This stalk may be moved to five different positions that correspond to the following functions:
windscreen wiper off (stationary);
intermittent operation;
continuous fast operation (1st speed);
continuous fast operation (2nd speed);
anti-panic temporary speed operation (unstable stalk position; stalk returns to neutral position when released and automatically deactivates the windscreen wiper).
The windscreen wiper intermittent function allows the wiper arm stroke speed to be modified according to vehicle speed. It is possible to manually change the windscreen wiper speed at any time.The gap between one windscreen wiper stroke and the next, operates according to car speed and the following logic:
4.7 seconds up to 40 Km/h;
2.7 seconds up to 90 Km/h;
1.1 seconds up to 110 Km/h.
The windscreen wiper function can be activated by pulling the lever slightly toward the steering wheel: this operates the windscreen washer pump. Keeping the lever pulled for more than half a second also starts the windscreen wiper (smart washing) at first speed, while, when the lever is released, the windscreen wiper performs 3 more strokes. A final stroke after 6 seconds completes the wiping operation.Operation of the windscreen wipers is regulated by the Body Computer. As well as generating the intermittence period, this controls operation of the windscreen wiper motor.Activation of the windscreen wiper when reverse gear is engaged enables rear wiper movement at continuous low speed. See E3021 REAR WINDOW WASH/WIPE The windscreen/rear screen washer two-way pump circuit is operated by a relay built into the Body Computer that allows different polarisation of the motor according to commands given by the user. Its power supply line is protected by a fuse located on the same Body Computer.
