312001208 - INTRODUCTION - SCREEN WASHERS AND HEADLAMP WASH/WIPE
INTRODUCTION
The vehicle is equipped with a system that cleans and washes the front and rear windscreens.The windscreen and rear windscreen wash/wipe system is operated by the steering wheel interface lever located on the right of the steering wheel and is managed entirely by the Body Computer Node.The system is operated with the key to MAR.WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE
The windscreen wash/wipe assembly cleans and washes the windscreen.The innovative features of the windscreen washer assembly are essentially:
- the electronic control system is separate from the control motor whereas both units were contained in a single component on the previous wipers.
- the smart wash operating strategy applied for the windscreen washer.
Due to the electronic control system and according to the position of the right steering wheel interface lever, the system manages operation of the direct current wiper motor by means of two windings, i.e. at two rotating speeds:
- Low speed: 42 ± 5 rpm
- High speed: 65 ± 5 rpm

Composition and operation
The front windscreen washer assembly consists essentially of the following components:
- two wiper arms equipped with blades with parallel synchronised movement;
- a d.c. electric motor that allows arm movement and is equipped with a cam (consisting essentially of an active switch with earth) that notifies the electronic control system of motor lock. A motor with rated or 12V voltage can operate at voltages between 9-16V. It is equipped with a thermal protection switch and electromagnetic interference suppression circuits for long, medium, short and ultrashort wavelengths on both vehicles;
- a two-way pump driven by the right steering wheel interface lever takes up washer fluid from the reservoir and feeds the jets on the bonnet lid through pipes, and the jets on the rear wiper rear shaft pin.

REAR WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE (REARSCREEN)
This device has the task of cleaning the rear windscreen in an optimum manner. It has a single motor with a 12V supply which operates at voltages of between 9 and 16V with a bimetallic overload cut out, not equipped with radio anti-interference.The wiping function is carried out by a single wiping element consisting of a plastic arm with internal linkage.The jets are located on the top part of the tailgate.1. Multifunction switch or right lever
This includes the front and rear wiper controls.All the controls are activated by operating either the lever or the ring nut on the actual lever.The diagram below shows the four different positions for the steering wheel interface control lever (A), when it is moved clockwise.A. windscreen wiper stopped.B. intermittent operation.C. continuous slow operation.D. continuous fast operation.E. anti-panic temporary fast operation (unstable position).The figure below shows the possible position of wheel (B) of the steering wheel interface control lever (A), being rotated in a clockwise direction around its own axis.

Operating procedure
Moving the lever anti-clockwise activates the "anti-panic" function. The windscreen wiper motor functions at speed 2 all the time it is operated by the user.Temporary fast operation (position E) is limited to the time that the lever is manually held in this position. The lever returns to position A when it is released, automatically stopping the windscreen wipers.On some versions, deceleration of the vehicle to standstill will cause the windscreen wiper to slow by one level, automatically returning to the original speed once the car passes 10km/h. It is possible to manually change the windscreen wiper speed at any time.The windscreen wiper function can be activated by pulling the lever slightly toward the driver: the windscreen washer pump is then operated. The wiper comes on too if the stalk remains pulled back (continuous operation at 1st speed). The wiper continues to work for a few sweeps when the stalk is released.A few seconds after reaching the windscreen wiper rest position, the windscreen wipers give a supplementary wipe (after-wipe function).Turning the wheel operates the rear wiper. With the windscreen wiper activated, turning the wheel operates the rear wiper which, in this case, works (in the different positions) in synchronisation with the windscreen wiper, but at a slower speed.With the windscreen wiper activated, when reverse gear is engaged, the rear wiper is also automatically activated in continuous slow operation. Operation stops when reverse gear is disengaged.The rear screen washer is operated by pushing the stalk towards the dashboard. The operation is UNSTABLE, i.e. the stalk returns to rest position when released.The control simultaneously operates the rear wiper in smart washing mode (windscreen washer function).RESERVOIR
The reservoir is located in the right side of the wheel arch compartment. It supplies the screen washer system pump with the water-antifreeze mixture required to clean the windscreen and rear screen.The windscreen washer pump is a two-way pump and, thanks to two pipes connected to it, it allows the supply of both jet units to wash both the front windscreen and the rear windscreen.The reservoir capacity is about 2.6 litres.The reservoir is made from plastic.1.
