Introduction

The ASR (Anti-slip Regulation) system (where fitted) is an integral part of the ESP system and automatically intervenes if one or both of the drive wheels slip, aiding the driver in controlling the vehicle.

The action of the ASR system is particularly helpful in the following conditions:

  • inner wheel slipping when cornering, due to dynamic load variations or excessive acceleration;
  • excessive power transmitted to the wheels, also in relation to road surface conditions;
  • acceleration on slippery, snowy or icy road surfaces;
  • loss of grip on wet road surfaces (aquaplaning).

Msr (engine drive regulation) system

The MSR system is an integral part of the ASR, that intervenes, if there is a sudden change to a lower gear, supplying torque to the engine, thereby preventing excessive drive at the drive wheels which, especially in poor grip conditions, could lead to a loss in stability of the vehicle.

Engagement/ disengagement of the asr system

The ASR comes on automatically whenever the engine is started. Whilst driving, the ASR can be switched off and subsequently switched on again by pressing the ASR OFF button.
1. ASR off buttonWhen the system is switched on, this is signalled by a message on the configurable multi-functional display (where fitted).When the system is switched off, this is signalled by the LED on the ASR OFF button lighting up and by a message on the configurable multi-functional display (where fitted). When the ASR is switched off whilst driving, the next time the car is started up the ASR is automatically switched on by the system.When travelling on a snow-covered road surface with snow chains fitted, it can be helpful to switch the ASR off: under these conditions, drive wheel slip during take-off allows better traction to be achieved.For more details see:    See descriptions 3350E VEHICLE DIRECTION CONTROL SYSTEM VDC/ESP
