INTRODUCTION

The front seats have been designed for optimum driving comfort and maximum safety, guaranteeing the ideal specifications for lateral containment and lumbar support. The structure of the base, fastened to the seat sliding assembly, is made from pressed steel with the antisubmarining function that prevents the occupant from sliding underneath the abdominal section of the saet belt in the case of strong deceleration. The seat frame is made up of a pressed steel structure which improves the energy absorption capacity in the case of rear impacts that is secured to the seat sliding assembly by means of a bilateral joint. The backrest can be folded over using the release handle which allows the seat to be folded over or slid forwards in a single manoeuvre. The subsequent repositioning is assisted by a memory mechanism, in the sliding guides, which automatically restores the seat to its original position. The adjustment of the backrest angle is the continuous type and is regulated by a knob located on the inside near the joint. The height adjustable head restraint is on the backrest. The passenger seat has a removable oddments compartment in the lower part.To improve back support, the vehicle has a modern support system for the lumbar region specially designed to adapt fully to the back and support it tirelessly thanks to its considerable extension and operating range. The driver''s seat is height adjustable by means of a control lever located on the inside; the rear part of the cushion can be raised or lowered using this lever in order to make the driving position more comfortable.

Structure

The structure of the front seats has been designed to assist and complete the protection offered by the occupant protection system. The pressed steel base under the front seat cushion maintains the correct support for the occupant in the case of a frontal impact preventing the passengers from sliding under the seat belt known as the anti-submarining effect. Two metal bars, at the front and the back under the base of the front seat cushions, minimize the deformation of the seat during frontal impacts. The bilateral type robust hinging between the backrest and the base of the cushion structure has been designed to ensure optimum retention of the occupant in the case of rear impacts at low speed and, in conjunction with suitably designed side panels, gradually absorb the impact energy from rear collisions at high speed in a controlled manner. There is a warning on the outside of the backrest about the presence of the Side Bag module under the cover. If the Side Bag module, cable and backrest cover are replaced, there are adjustment plates on the new components that should be removed and stuck onto the base of the seat where they can be easily read. There is a passenger presence sensor on the passenger seat for the S.B.R. function (Seat Belt Reminder) which warns the front passenger that they have not fastened their seat belt. For more details see:    See descriptions 7065 SEAT BELTS AND ACCESSORIES

To reduce the risk of this injury to a minimum, the vehicle is fitted with head restraints capable of retaining the head in the case of rear impacts preventing irregular or excessive stresses to the cervical group of the vertebral column. The size of the head restraint in relation to the position of the neck and the stiffness of the head restraint are therefore important with regard to the performance of this function.

The following goals were set for this vehicle:

  • To minimise the distance between neck and head restraint
  • To ensure the adjustment range was sufficient to accommodate even very tall people.
  • Great stability during impact.
The front head restraints have a height adjustment device with a fastening to ensure stable and optimum positioning in all intermediate positions. The adjustment control does not have to be released to raise the head restraint. To lower the head restraint, on the other hand, it must be released using the button on the bush. When the head restraint button is released, it will lock in the nearest position.
A. Head restraint release buttonFolding over backrest for seats with mechanical memory

To fold over the backrest on front seats with a mechanical memory properly, proceed as described below:

  • 1) Adjust the release lever and release the backrest
  • 2) Fold the backrest foward until the seat locks in the folding position simply by pushing it (do not adjust the backrest release lever during this movement)
  • 3) Slide the seat forward simply by pushing it (do not adjust the backrest release lever during this movement)

To fold over and reposition front seats with a mechanical memory properly, proceed as described below:

  • 4) Slide the seat backward until it reaches its original position simply by pushing it (do not adjust the backrest release lever during this movement)
  • 5) Adjust the backrest release lever to unlock it then lift up the backrest until it is heard to click and lock into place.
  • 6) Check that the seat and the backrest are perfectly locked.
