Test results
1NOISE TYPE CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check the type of noise reportedMove on to Step 21. Electric type noise (buzzing or vibrations) (with the system activated).2. Noise similar to grating plastic (with system not activated).3. Noise similar to the reversal of the steering wheel (with the system activated) or a series of multiple bangs when steering.4. Metallic and/or mechanical type noise during steering wheel adjustment.1. Move on to Step 22. Move on to Step 33. Move on to Step 44. Do not intervene: noise is normal because the mechanical parts involved are released to allow the movement of the steering wheel.
2NOISE INTENSITY CHECK (BUZZING OR VIBRATIONS)All OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check the intensity of the noiseMove on to Step 31. The noise is not very intense. It cannot be heard on the passenger side.2. The noise consists of strong vibrations of the steering wheel, constantly or in certain steering positions.3. The constant electrical buzzing noise is very intense.1. Do not intervene: slight noise is normal in an EPS system.2. Replace the electric steering assembly    Op. 4110D20 STEERING ELECTRICAL CONTROL DEVICE - R R 3. Replace the electric steering assembly    Op. 4110D20 STEERING ELECTRICAL CONTROL DEVICE - R R
3INTERFERENCE CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check for any interference with the surrounding plastic parts.Move on to Step 41. The steering wheel is in contact with the upper and/or lower trim.2. The noise disappears without the air bag and/or without the steering column switch unit.1. Refit the steering column switch unit and steering wheel cover correctly.2. Do not repair the EPS system, rather the defective component.
4CHECK ON NOISE FROM OTHER COMPONENTSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check (with the system activated) that the nut for the fork on the steering box pinion and on the lower part of the EPS system are correctly tightened to torque, then make sure that the noise is no longer present by moving the steering wheel briskly.End of diagnosisThe fault occurs again, especially when the steering wheel is moved briskly.DO NOT replace the EPS system. Problem with the intermediate shaft.
