312001731 - 70B ROAD TEST TO IDENTIFY NOISE

STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
Before proceeding with the test, check that the vehicle tyre inflation pressure is correctRestore the correct tyre inflation pressure.
Check that the wheels are correctly balancedCarry out rebalancing
Steer, with the vehicle stationary, to the left and the right, checking that there are no unusual noises and that there are no unusual noises with the gearbox in neutral.Continue as instructed in the    See table S022 GEARBOX NOISE - IN NEUTRAL
Set off from stationary to check that there is no metallic noise or roughness.Continue as instructed in the    See table S021 GEARBOX NOISE - AT TAKE OFF
Again from a standing start, check that there are no transverse vibrations.Continue as instructed in the    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
Carry out a road test on an unsurfaced road, engaging the various gears.Continue as instructed in the    See table S023 GEARBOX NOISE - IN A SPECIFIC GEAR
Carry out a road test on a surfaced road, engaging the various gears when cornering.Continue as instructed in the    See table S024 GEARBOX NOISE - WHEN CORNERING
With the help of a colleague, check that the noise is not due to one of the dashboard components not being properly fastened (when your hand is placed on top of it the noise either lessens or disappears). The noise is due to creaking of interior/exterior dashboard components. The test can be considered complete
Brake in safe conditions to check whether the noise is only present during braking as a result of the brake discs. The noise is caused by the brake discs or rear drumsThe test can be considered complete
Pull the handbrake lever gently, whilst driving in a straight line, to check whether the noise disappears.Adjust the handbrake travel    Op. 3380A04 HANDBRAKE - ADJUST TRAVEL
During the previous check, make sure that there are no transverse vibrations during the pull and release stages.Increase the speed and check that there is no metallic noise, possibly accompanied by transverse vibrations which vary according to the vehicle speed or engine revs.Continue as instructed in the    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no creaking from the front area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S016 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING)
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (transverse tracks, cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no whistling from the front area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S017 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (transverse tracks, cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no knocking from the front area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S018 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (KNOCKING)
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (transverse tracks, cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no creaking from the rear area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S026 REAR NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING/TICKING)
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (transverse tracks, cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no whistling from the rear area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S027 REAR NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)
Carry out a road test on an unmade road (transverse tracks, cobblestones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no knocking from the rear area.Continue as instructed in the    See table S028 REAR NOISE (KNOCKING)
When performing Steps 12 to 17, carry out steering in safe conditions to determine whether the noise is present, especially when steering and whether it is more noticeable on one or other of the sides. If so, subsequent checks should be carried out more carefully on the side in question. Also check that there are no transverse vibrations accompanied by noise. If there are, continue as indicated in the    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
