312000942 - E3021 REARSCREEN WASH/WIPE - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The function of the rear screen washer/wiper can only be operated when the key is in the MAR (ON) position and is exclusive to the ignition phase (INT/A).When the rearscreen wiper ring nut located on the right steering column switch unit lever is moved to the ON position, the rearscreen wiper is activated in one of the following modes:

  • intermittent: with a pause of 2.7 secs. between one stroke and the next
  • subject to the windscreen wiper (if there is a simultaneous windscreen/rearscreen wiper request): synchronised operation at half the frequency of the windscreen/rearscreen wiper;
  • slow continuous: if reverse gear is engaged.
With the windscreen wipers working, if reverse gear is engaged, the rearscreen wiper is automatically activated: this function is managed by the Body Computer, which receives information from the engine control unit via the CAN network.
    See E2022 REVERSING LIGHTS The rearscreen washer function can be deactivated by pushing the lever slightly toward the dashboard: this operates the rearscreen washer pump. Keeping the lever pushed for more than half a second also starts the rearscreen wiper (smart washing) at a continuous speed, while, when the lever is released, the rear wiper performs 3 more strokes. A final stroke after 6 seconds completes the wiping operation (to eliminate any smears).If the rearscreen wiper was already activated before the washing command using the lever, the washing logic is only effective for activating intermittent operation.The rear screen washer/wiper two-way pump circuit is operated by a relay built into the Body Computer that allows different polarisation of the motor according to commands given by the user. Its power supply line is protected by a fuse located in the same Body Computer.
