323000398 - E3090 PARKING SENSOR - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The vehicle is equipped with an assisted parking system which supplies information to the driver regarding the distance between the vehicle and possible obstacles to the rear of the vehicle. The parking sensors, located in the rear bumper, supply information to the system and warn the driver, via an intermittent acoustic alarm, of the presence of obstacles at the rear of the vehicle. The sensor is a device which uses ultrasound technology and acts as a transmitter and receiver of ultrasound frequency impulse packages. The impulses are reflected by the obstacle within the trajectory, the sensor then receives an echo which is amplified, converted into a digital signal, and subsequently processed by the control unit. The sensors are automatically activated when reverse gear is selected.    See E2022 REVERSING LIGHTS The frequency of the acoustic signal increases as the distance to the obstacle at the rear of the vehicle diminishes. The acoustic signal:- increases in frequency as the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle diminishes;- becomes continuous when the distance which separates the vehicle and obstacle is 30 cm, and stops immediately if the distance from the obstacle increases;- remains constant if the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle remains unchanged, whilst if this situation occurs for the side sensors, the signal is interrupted after about 3 seconds in order to avoid, for example, signals in the event of manoeuvres alongside walls. The control unit is equipped with a self-diagnostic function: when switched on the control unit carries out an initial test on the sensors which are then continuously subject to fault diagnosis during the operation of the system. A fault in only one sensor inhibits the operation of the entire system: in this case the system excludes itself and sends a fault message. The failure status is signalled at the instrument panel by the general failure warning light coming on and, where present, the display of a message in the multifunction/reconfigurable multifunction display. The function is active only with the ignition key in the ON position. The system is supplied by an ignition-operated circuit (INT) protected by a dedicated fuse in the junction unit under the dashboard. The operation of the sensors is automatically deactivated when the pin for the trailer electric cable is inserted in the vehicle tow hook socket. The sensors are automatically reactivated when the trailer cable pin is removed.
