323000456 - E5060 CRUISE CONTROL - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The Cruise Control function allows the vehicle to be driven at a constant speed without having to press the accelerator pedal. The function is managed by the engine management control unit which receives commands from the driver via a lever on the left of the steering wheel. The lever knob must be turned to the ON position first to activate the system. Following this operation a dedicated warning light will come on in the instrument panel. To memorize the speed the vehicle must reach the desired speed, the lever must be moved upwards for a least a second and then released; the vehicle speed will be memorized and the cruise control is activated.Moving the lever upwards whilst the cruise control is activated and the speed of the vehicle is kept constant sets an increase in the speed memorized. If the lever is kept upwards for more than a second, the speed varies continuously; conversely, if the command takes place for less than a second, the increase in speed takes place in small steps. If the lever is moved downwards then there is a decrease in the speed following the same modes described above. The device can be switched off in the following ways: by turning the lever knob to the OFF position, switching off the engine, pressing the brake pedal, pressing the clutch pedal or pressing the accelerator pedal. In the latter case the system is not deactivated, but precedence is given to the acceleration request; once the vehicle acceleration stage is over and, as soon as the speed is close to the one memorized previously, the system restores cotnrol and a constant speed is maintained. The system also deactivates the device independently of the commands given by the driver if the following conditions are verified:- intervention of the ABS or ESP systems;- vehicle speed below or above the set limit (30 and 180 km/h respectively) as a result of external conditions such as steep uphill or downhill slopes, etc.;- if the system is broken. If the device has been switched off, for example by pressing the brake pedal or the clutch pedal, to restore the set speed the vehicle must be driven at close to that speed, the gear selected at the time the speed was memorized must be engaged and the RES (Resume) button at the end of the lever must be pressed. For further information:    See descriptions 5580A CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM
