INTRODUCTION

The seats are of vital importance in terms of comfort and safety: they are, in effect, the element that has to absorb the kinetic energy acquired by the body through the effect of stresses when cornering and during acceleration/deceleration.The rear seats have been designed in conjunction with the front seats to optimise their qualities of comfort and safety.
The rear seat may be in one piece or split 40/60 with a flip and fold type system (lifting the seat cushion and folding over the backrest).The structure of the backrests is designed to guarantee the maximum safety of the occupants in all types of impacts, including any luggage being projected forwards.The structure of the rear cushions is optimised for antisubmarining.The foam used for the rear seats is comfortable thanks to solutions with differential load bearing (a property that measures the capacity of the padding to yield under the weight of the body) for different parts of the seat.

Structure

On the rear seat the structure of the backrest comprises resistant tubular structures that, with limited deformation, support the forces that develop during a frontal impact when there are occupants in the rear seats and/or when there are heavy loads in the luggage compartment that discharge all their energy forces against the backrest. The rear cushion has been designed to guarantee that there is no submarining.

Head restraint

The vehicle can be fitted with three head restraints on the rear seats in addition to the compulsory head restraints on the front seats. As is known head restraints are an important factor in preventing and not in causing neck injuries (especially whiplash) if the vehicle is involved in a shunt.Recent research has established that the risk of whiplash is mainly linked to two simple design parameters of the head restraint:- the vertical distance between the top edge of the head restraint and the passenger''s head- the horizontal distance between the head restraint and the nape of the passenger''s neck.These two parameters have been borne in mind on the vehicle both in designing the style of the seat and in designing the possible adjustments for the head restraint.The rear seats are fitted with height adjustable head restraints designed to protect even the tallest passengers. If there are no rear occupants the head restraints can be kept in the fully lowered position to give the driver a clear field of vision. The occupants of the rear seats are obliged to use the head restraints. Lastly, their position in relation to the backrest and the actual shape of the head restraints have been designed to minimize the horizontal distance in relation to the nape of the passenger''s neck.The rear head restraints are therefore fitted with a height adjustment device that allows a fixed raised position as the lowered position.

Isofix mountings

ISOFIX universal child seats can be fitted to the rear side seats.This type of mountings have two special features:- they encourage the continuous and correct usage of the child seat, offering the user two mountings for the child seat using simple locks;- standardizing the dimensions of the mountings and their distance to allow the child seat to be reused on any type of vehicle.The preparation consists of:- two lower rings A located between the rear seat backrest and cushion (the dimensions and distance between them is standard)- third mounting point B (upper tether) located behind the backrest to which the seat belt that comes with the child seat should be attached
