323002018 - ROAD TEST TO IDENTIFY NOISE

STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
Before proceeding with the test, check that the vehicle tyre inflation pressure is correct.Restore the correct tyre pressure.
Check that the wheels are correctly balanced.Rebalance the wheels.
Steer, with the vehicle stationary, to the left and the right and check that there is no unusual noise. Check that there is no unusual noise with the gearbox in neutral.Continue as indicated.    See table S022 GEARBOX NOISE - IN NEUTRAL
Set off from stationary to check that there is no metallic noise or roughness.Continue as indicated.    See table S021 GEARBOX NOISE - AT TAKE OFF
Again from a standing start, check that there are no transverse vibrations.Continue as indicated.    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
Carry out a road test on an even road surface, engaging the various gears.Continue as indicated.    See table S023 GEARBOX NOISE - IN A SPECIFIC GEAR
Carry out a road test on an even road surface, engaging the various gears when cornering.Continue as indicated.    See table S024 GEARBOX NOISE - WHEN CORNERING
With the help of a colleague, check that the noise is not due to one of the dashboard components not being properly fastened (when your hand is placed on top of it the noise either lessens or disappears). The noise is due to creaking of interior/exterior dashboard components. The test can be considered over.
Brake in safe conditions to check whether the noise is only present during braking. The noise is caused by the brake discs or rear drums. The test can be considered over.
Whilst driving in a straight line, pull the handbrake lever gently to check whether the noise disappears.Adjust the handbrake travel.    Op. 3380A04 HANDBRAKE - ADJUST TRAVEL
During the previous check, make sure that there are no transverse vibrations between the pull and release stages. Increase speed and check that there are no metallic noises, possibly accompanied by transverse vibrations, that vary according to vehicle speed or engine revs.Continue as indicated.    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no creaking/squeaking coming from the front area.Continue as indicated.    See table S016 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING)
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no whistling etc. coming from the front area.Continue as indicated.    See table S017 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no knocking coming from the front area.Continue as indicated.    See table S018 FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE (KNOCKING)
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking there is no creaking/squeaking coming from the rear area.Continue as indicated.    See table S026 REAR NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING/TICKING)
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no whistling etc. coming from the rear area.Continue as indicated.    See table S027 REAR NOISE (WHISTLING/HUMMING)
Carry out a road test on an uneven road surface (transverse tracks, cobblestones, paving stones) to define the type of noise, checking that there is no knocking coming from the rear area.Continue as indicated.    See table S028 REAR NOISE (KNOCKING)
When carrying out Steps 12 to 17, steer in safe conditions to determine whether the noise is present especially when steering and whether it is more noticeable on one or other of the sides. If so, subsequent checks should be carried out more carefully on the side in question. Also check that there are no transverse vibrations accompanied by noise. In this case:    See table S019 FORECARRIAGE TRANSVERSE VIBRATIONS
