The system is designed to clean and wash the windscreen. There is also a device for washing the front light clusters.
COMPOSITION
The system comprises the following Assemblies:A windscreen wiping assembly consisting of:
a control unit (Windscreen Wiper Control Unit - CTC)
an electric motor
two wiper arms with blades
an electronic rain sensor
A windscreen washing assembly consisting of:
a windscreen washer and headlamp washer reservoir
an electric pump operated by the right steering column switch unit lever
A headlamp washer assembly consisting of:
a reservoir shared with the windscreen washer system
a specific electric pump
two headlamp washer jets located in the front bumper
connecting pipes between the reservoir and the headlamp washer jets
OPERATION
By operating the right steering column switch unit lever the user sends signals for activating and selecting the following components to the Windscreen Wiper Control Unit (CTC):
front windscreen wiper arm electric motor
windscreen washer pump
headlamp washer pump
windscreen wiper speed in continuous operation mode
windscreen wiper activation frequency in intermittent operation moderain sensor sensitivity
MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH OR RIGHT LEVER
It includes the front wiper controls. All the controls are activated using the lever or the ring nut on the actual lever.Below is a list of the right lever controls:
RESERVOIR
The reservoir, located on the right front side panel, allows the windscreen washer system pump to take the water/anti-freeze mixture for cleaning the front windscreen; in addition, it also supplies the headlamp washer system through a specific pump.
Services provided
The reservoir has a capacity of around 5 litres and guarantees a minimum of 25 washing cycles for both the front windscreen and the front light clusters.
Structure
The reservoir, made from plastic, is fitted with a level sensor and external housings for the windscreen washer and headlamp washer pumps.
RAIN SENSOR ELECTRONIC UNIT
Specifications
The rain sensor (which comes in one piece with the dusk sensor) works on an infrared wavelength, based on the principle of refracting a light beam through the windows and allowing the automatic adjustment of the number of windscreen wiper blade strokes in proportion to the intensity of the rain.
Continuous timing at 2 windscreen wiper speeds by the rain sensor
The rain sensor is activated by operating the steering column switch unit lever in the intermittent position. In this position there are 4 possible settings for the sensor which is adjusted using the ring nut on the lever. The transmission of messages between the sensor and the CTC takes place via the A-BUS serial line.
Rain sensor failure management
If there is a fault in the rain sensor or if the Windscreen Wiper Control Unit does not receive information via the A-BUS serial line, the CTC operates in manual mode depending on the position of the ring nut/lever, sending a malfunction signal to the Instrument Panel Node via the Body Computer Node (through the B-CAN).For more information see [DF5540]. WINDSCREEN WASHER ELECTRIC PUMP
The electric windscreen washer pump is activated through the right steering column switch unit lever.
HEADLAMP WASH/WIPE
The headlamp wash/wipe system is designed to clean the surfaces of the front light clusters and keep them clean.
Headlamp washers
The headlamp washer system consists of:
a specific electric pump on the windscreen washer fluid reservoir
two devices with jets which are recessed in the bumper
three connecting pipes between the pump and the devices inside the bumper
Type
The system, which is the pressure fluid washing type, uses the fluid in the windscreen washer reservoir and is automatically activated thanks to the presence of a 12V timer which is supplied when the user activates the windscreen washer with the dipped headlamps switched on.
Operation
The headlamp washer function is only activated if the dipped or main beam headlamps are switched on.The headlamp washer command is not a specific command, it is the same one given by the steering column switch unit to carry out the front windscreen washer function. Each time the windscreen washer is activated, the Body Computer Node implements the headlamp washer function for a duration of 440ms +/- 10 ms.
System details
The headlamp wash/wipe system uses two telescopic type jets that, in the rest position, are recessed in the upper part of the front bumper. The force applied to the jet by the pressurized liquid when the pump is operated causes the upwards movement of the jet. Activating the device twice in succession produces optimum washing of the headlamps.
