STEPOPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUTTEST RESULTS
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check the following, in order:

  • condition of the air intake circuit;
  • diesel pipe seal;
  • condition of the air filter;
  • absence of fuel, water, paraffin or dirt in the diesel filter.
Move on to Step 1. Fault in the air intake circuit1. Renew the air intake circuit
2. Leaks from the diesel pipes2. Adjust pipe tightness to correct setting and replace if necessary.
3. Filter blocked3. Replace the diesel filter cartridge    See in Op. 1044B20 fuel filter filtering element - replace
4. Water, petrol, paraffin or dirt found to be present4. Clean the tank and pipes and replace the diesel filter cartridge    See in Op. 1044B20 fuel filter filtering element - replace
1CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Connect the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) to the diagnostic socket.Check:

  • that there are no errors in the control unit;
  • parameter plausibility
Move on to Step 1. Error detected in the control unit1. Continue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
2. Parameters not plausible2. Continue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
3. No communication with the control unit3. Restore the connection between the engine management control unit and the diagnostic connector
2HIGH PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Connect the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) to the diagnostic socket.Check, as described in the test < R1 > , that the diesel pressure parameter is correct    Continue following the instructions in the test 1060D Injector high pressure fuel circuit checkMove on to Step 1. Pressure not correctMove on to Step
3LOW RETURN PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in the test < R1 > , that the pressure in the return pipe to the tank is less than 1 bar    Continue following the instructions in the test 1060A Low pressure fuel return circuit checkMove on to Step Pressure above the maximum limit: return pipe to the tank obstructedRepair the pipe, if necessary, replace it
4LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in < R1 > , that the diesel pressure between the filter and the pressure pump is between 2 and 3 bar    Continue following the instructions in the test 1060B Low pressure fuel supply circuit checkMove on to Step 1. Pressure below the minimum limit or above the maximum limitMove on to Step
5LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Constrict the return pipe from the pressure regulator valve and carry out < R1 > again with the pipe constricted checking that the pressure at the filter outlet remains below 2 bar    Continue following the instructions in the test 1060B Low pressure fuel supply circuit checkMove on to Step 1. Pressure rises to 5 bar: pressure regulator valve on filter mounting incorrectly adjusted1. Replace the valve    See in Op. 1044B16 Fuel supply/return adjustment valve on fuel filter - R.R.
6LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the difference in pressure upstream and downstream of the filter is less than 1 barMove on to Step Difference in pressure more than 1 barReplace the diesel filter cartridge    See in Op. 1044B20 fuel filter filtering element - replace
7LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the supply pump pressure at the filter inlet is more than 2.2 barMove on to Step Pressure below 2 barMove on to Step
8LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Measure the difference in pressure between the electrical pump outlet and the filter inlet checking that it is less than 0.3 barMove on to Step 1. Difference in pressure more than 0.3 bar1. Replace the pipe
9LOW SUPPLY PRESSURE CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check, as described in < R1 > , that the pump supply voltage is equal to 12 volt and that the current absorbed is between 2 and 10 Ampere    Continue following the instructions in the test 1040AA Check the supply voltage and the absorption currentMove on to Step 1. Voltage < 12 volt1. Check electrical wiring (Wiring Diagram ) E5050 DIESEL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
2. Current > 10 Amps: pump defective2. Replace the fuel pump assembly    See in Op. 1040A70 SUBMERGED PUMP ASSEMBLY complete with level gauge - R.R.
3. Current < 2 Amps: pump obstructed3. Replace the fuel pump assembly < R1 > and clean the fuel tank    See in Op. 1040A70 SUBMERGED PUMP ASSEMBLY complete with level gauge - R.R.
10CHECK CORRECT OPERATIONALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Replace the DRV high pressure valve and check that the fault is no longer presentFault persistsMove on to Step
11CHECK CORRECT OPERATIONALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Replace the high pressure pump and check that the fault is no longer presentFault persistsMove on to Step
12CYLINDER COMPRESSION CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Carry out the cylinder compression checkMove on to Step Cylinder compression insufficientMove on to Step
13CHECK ON CAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT COMPRESSIONALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
