841003240 - E2010 SIDE LIGHTS/NUMBER PLATE LIGHT DESCRIPTION

Description

The side lights are activated by means of a wheel on the exterior side light control unit POS, with the key on MAR.They may be activated with the key (or keyless-go knob) in STOP position and the exterior lighting control unit ring in PARK position. The number plate light and numerous other interior lights for lighting the passenger compartment, instruments and controls are activated together with the side lights (these are described and explained in the wiring diagrams for the relevant components).Information on activation and/or deactivation is sent via the CAN network: the side light warning light on the control panel is also turned on this way.

  • if the turn signals are not active, the parking lights are turned on on both sides of the car. The number plate lights and side light warning light are also turned on
  • if the turn signal is turned on on one side, the parking lights are turned on only on the corresponding side. The number plate light and side lights are not turned on.
The follow me home function keeps the side lights and low beam on after turning off the engine (with key on STOP and exterior lighting control unit wheel on P PARK) for a time of 30 seconds or multiples thereof. The instrument panel display indicates when the side lights are left on.The lights are activated by operating the light flasher stalk within 2 minutes of key-off each time the lever is operated, the period for which the lights are kept on is increased by 30 seconds to a maximum of 210 seconds.correct light operation is controlled by the Body Computer side light and number plate light check function. A check is run under the following conditions:

  • circuit open or bulb missing (this must be carried out only with key ON)
  • short-circuit to earth (bulb s.c. or wiring s.c. to earth)
  • short circuit to battery voltage (wiring short circuited to earth). If the bulb is earthed it lights up on the other side. The test is carried out in the presence of an active load command.
  • replacing the bulb load:
  • the current surge protection must cut in if a 5W bulb is replaced by a 21 W bulb
  • a bulb missing indication must be given if a 5W bulb is replaced by a 21 W bulb
The Body Computer carries out an analytic check on the 4 side light bulbs and sends bulb status to the instrument panel via 4 different CAN signals. When one of these situations occurs, the body computer makes the failure status available on the CAN network:The side light Parking function is turned on when the exterior lighting control unit wheel is turned to P "PARK":

  • fault information is displayed on the instrument panel.
