199324 - Composition

BASIC version

The radio system is a node of the B-CAN integrated in the NIT and, depending on the version, consists of:

  • FM and AM (MW and LW) integrated radio receiver with RDS, EON and TMC functions with integrated Digital Sound Processor
  • radio supply leads
  • front speakers with separate tweeters
  • rear speakers
  • radio controls on the steering wheel
  • cables connecting the radio with the speakers
  • coaxial cable connecting the aerial, incorporated in the rear windows
  • interference suppressors
  • connecting cable with the CD player/changer (optional)

LOCATION

The diagram below illustrates the radio system components

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

RADIO

The system uses a radio integrated in the Siemens NIT system featuring:

  • integrated raio with AM and FM
  • 4 selection bands: 2 FM, AS and AM
  • automatic programming of FM stations (autostore)
  • RDS decodifier with AF, TP functions, etc.
  • cassette reproduction with autoreverse, Dolby B and automatic selection of the type of cassette
  • connection with an external CD player
  • audio control with treble/bass, balance and fader
  • connection with an outside amplifier
For the location of the connectors and the Pin out, see 5580P

FRONT SPEAKERS

The front speakers are located in the doors (2 in number), the separate tweeters are located in the front pillars (2 in number).Midwoofer speakers 165 mm diameter, with separate tweeters

REAR SPEAKERS

The rear speakers are located in the doors and in the rear parcel shelfElliptical midwoofer + tweeter speakers (1 30x180 mm) in the rear doors(4 in number) two for each doorSubwoofer speakers (200 mm) (1 in number).

RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL

The main controls for the radio (in addition to others for controlling the NIT functions) are replicated on the steering wheel allowing the driver to operate the radio without taking their hands off the steering wheel.
The device consists of buttons and a series of resistances with different values so that each time the buttons are pressed there is a corresponding different voltage sent to the radio control system

AERIAL

The vehicle is equipped with a series of aerials integrated in the rearscreen: specific serigraphy is dedicated to the reception of AM stations and other serigraphy is designed for the reception of FM stations. The amplifier for the aerial signal which also has the function of selecting the best signal (aerial diversity) is located on the roof, at the back on the right.A screen coaxial cable connects the radio to the amplifier: the cable is divided into two sections: one under the dashboard and one along the right side of the passenger compartment.

CD PLAYER/CHANGER

A special CD cartridge allows up to 5 CDs to be loaded which are then selected through the controls on the radio display. The cartridge only works if it contains at least one CD: the CDs must also be correctly inserted and the flap should be properly closed. The cartridge is available as an optional extra and is located in the glove compartment.

RADIO AMPLIFIER (DSP)

OPERATION and LOCATION of DSP

The radio amplifier is located on the right side of the luggage compartment and is connected to the rear wiring. There are two different amplifiers, one of which has a Digital Signal Processing system (BOSE) and one of which does not, which have the same wiring side connection.

BOSE version

A sophisticated Bose HIFI system with special HIFI speakers and an outside amplifier is available on request.

FUNCTION

- The system has been developed ad hoc for the vehicle: the acoustic properties of the passenger compartment have been carefully studied so that the amplifier and the speakers are ideally suited to the vehicle: optimum listening is available in any part of the passenger compartment. The system is also in perfect harmony with the aesthetics of the vehicle without taking up additional space. The system is installed on the vehicle directly during production with no subsequent operations: the cables are integrated in the vehicle wiring. It is therefore not advisable to make any changes to the original system (e.g. graphic equalizers, additional sub-woofers, extra amplifiers). In addition, the system components (amplifier and speakers) should not be repaired individually, but should be replaced with new components. The Bose system guarantees the highest quality sound with pure treble and rich bass tones.Adjusting the volume, through equalization "activates" the Bose systemTreble/bass control from + 6 dB to -12 dBFader control, through the Bose "spatial" faderOptimum frequency response, with graphics illustrated below:

  • Output distortion < 2% with all controls adjusted to the maximum
  • Dynamic output range > 112 dB
  • Cassette player interference reduction with B NR type Dolby
Unlike the system fitted as standard, the Bose system offers:

  • mid-range speakers in the front doors with tweeters incorporated
  • wide-range speakers in the rear doors
  • mid-range speaker in the centre of the dashboard
  • twin rear woofer speaker in the rear parcel shelf
  • high power amplifier
The other components (radio, aerial, etc.) are the same as the standard system.
