) - Position the vehicle on a lift.

Before proceed with the operation of removing the solenoid unit, position the gear lever in "N"

- Open the boot, remove the cover on the left hand side and disconnect the negative battery lead. See in Op. 7040D50 ENGINE COMPARTMENT UPPER SOUND INSULATION SHIELD - R.R. See in Op. 1016A40 Ignition COIL COVER on cylinder head - R.R. See in Op. 1048A21 AIR INLET HOSE FROM INTAKE TO FILTER - R.R. See in Op. 1048A23 Cold AIR INTAKE for air filter - R.R. See in Op. 1048A28 vacuum air circuit resonator pipe - r+r See in Op. 1048A10 COMPLETE AIR FILTER -R.R.- Raise the vehicle on the lift. See in Op. 7055B42 FRONT WHEEL ARCH LINER (one), left or right - R.R.- Left side See in Op. 7055B54 PROTECTION/GUARD under engine - R.R.- Position a container to collect the automatic transmission fluid.1. Undo the plug and drain the transmission fluid

1. Undo the lower bolts (1a) fixing the solenoid valve unit cover (1b).

- Lower the vehicle1. Release the air conditioning system pipe (1b) from the retaining clips (1a)2. Undo the upper bolts (2a) fixing the solenoid valve unit cover (2b) and remove it taking care not to damage the actual cover and the gearbox casing.

1. Disconnect the gear selection solenoid valve unit connectors

1. Undo the bolt (1a) fixing the retaining bracket and remove the oil temperature sensor (1b).

Proceed carefully to avoid damaging the electrical connection

1. Undo the two bolts (1a) fixing the inlet cover (1b) and remove it together with the gasket.

1. Undo the bolts fixing the solenoid valve unit starting with the top ones (1a) and then, after having raised the vehicle, finish with the bottom ones (1b).

1. Disconnect the gear selector lever (1a) and remove the solenoid valve unit (1b) releasing it from underneath.

1. Remove the two gaskets underneath the solenoid valve unit

Refitting ( Removing

) - Clean the work area thoroughly- Place a new set of gaskets underneath the solenoid valve unit1. Position the solenoid valve unit simultaneously engaging the valve control lever (1a) and the gear engagement control (1b) and secure the unit using a bolt.

1. Position the remaining bolts (1a), (1b) and (1c) as illustrated in the diagram and tighten them to the recommended torque.

1. Position the inlet cover (1a) with a new gasket (1b) and tighten the two fixing bolts (1c) to the recommended torque.

1. Position the temperature sensor (1a) and secure it using the retaining bracket (1b) tightening the fixing bolt (1c) to the recommended torque.

- Connect the gear selection solenoid valve unit connectors.

- Clean any residues of sealant from the contact surface of the automatic transmission solenoid valve unit cover.- Apply a bead of silicon sealant 1.0 - 1.5 mm thick along the edge of the solenoid valve unit cover, removing any excess from inside the actual cover.

Take care not to foul the contact surfaces beween the cover and the gearbox casing with oil.

1. Place the gear selector solenoid valve unit cover back in its housing and secure it tightening the bolts to the recommended torque.

See in Op. 7055B42 FRONT WHEEL ARCH LINER (one), left or right - R.R.- Left side See in Op. 7055B64 Engine compartment DUST SEAL in front wheel arch (one), left or right - R.R.- Connect the negative battery lead, then close the boot.- Remove the vehicle from the lift.
