CHECK TO BE PERFORMEDRESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1Connect the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode with the positive terminal connected to Pin C1 and the negative earthed to Pin A4 of the steering lock control unit. The direct battery voltage reading should be 12 Volts.    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Restore wiring continuity    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK
2Insert a key in the key reader.Connect the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode with the positive terminal connected to Pin A6 and the negative earthed. The direct battery voltage reading should be 12 Volts.    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Move on to Step 4Move on to Step 3
3Check whether the wiring is continuous between Pin 12 of the ignition device and control unit Pin A6.    See H003 IGNITION DEVICE    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overContinue as indicated    See Test 5505AF CHECK OF THE EFFICIENCY OF KEY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT DEVICE
4Disconnect the wiring connector from the control unit    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Connect the diagnostic instrument in Ohmmeter mode with one probe between Pin A5 of the control unit and Earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the clutch pedal and check for an earth signal.Move on to Step 6
if no clutch signal is detected by the steering lock node, the car can still be started up by pressing the brake pedal
Move on to Step 5

6With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin B7 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the clutch pedal.Press the ignition button.Check for a battery voltage signal of 12 Volts.Move on to Step 8Move on to Step 7
7Check whether or not there is continuity in the wiring between Pin B7 of the control unit and Pin 6 of the button    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)    See H2 STARTER BUTTONRepair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overReplace the ignition button    Op. 5520G30 START/STOP SWITCH FOR EASY-GO SYSTEM STARTER MOTOR - R.R.
8Press the ignition button.With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin B6 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the clutch pedal.Press the ignition button.Check for a battery voltage signal of 12 Volts.Move on to Step 10Move on to Step 9

15With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin B8 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the clutch pedal.Press the ignition button.Check for a battery voltage signal of 12 Volts.Replace the steering lock node    Op. 5580E17 STEERING LOCK - R.R
16With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin C4 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the brake pedal and the battery voltage reading should be 12 Volts.Release the brake pedal and the voltage reading should be 0 volts.Move on to Step 20Move on to Step 17
17Check whether or not there is continuity in the wiring between Pin 4 of the brake pedal switch and Pin C4 of the control unit.    See I030 BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH     See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overCheck the power supply is correct to the brake pedal switch and restore if necessary.Move on to Step 18
18Check the diagnostic instrument in parameter mode to ensure the brake pedal switch is operating correctly.Replace the switch    Op. 5550D10 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH - R+R or alternatively    Op. 1060D38 SWITCH ON BRAKE PEDAL - R.R (DIESEL ENGINES)
19Replace the steering lock node    Op. 5580E17 STEERING LOCK - R.R The test can be considered over
20With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin C7 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Press the brake pedal and the battery voltage reading should be 0 Volts.Release the brake pedal and the voltage reading should be 12 volts.Move on to Step 17
21With the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode, connect the positive probe to control unit Pin C2 and the negative to earth    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Turn on the side lights and check for the presence of a PWM signalReplace the steering lock node    Op. 5580E17 STEERING LOCK - R.R
