939011713 - E4010 INSTRUMENT PANEL - DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The instruments currently on board the vehicle in question are composed of the main control panel located inside the steering wheel and a central instrument console in the middle of the dashboard. The main panel contains a large reconfigurable matrix LCD (HIGH version) or a negative contrast alphanumerical LCD (LOW version only). There is also a buzzer and a brightness sensor inside the instrument panel for the automatic adjustment (daytime/nightime) of the brightness of the instrument panel lights. See E2535 CONTROL LIGHTSThe centre instrument console consists of:- fuel level gauge with reserve warning light- engine coolant temperature gauge with overheating warning light- engine oil temperature gauge with overheating warning lightThe instrument panel is a CAN node through which information is exchanged with the Body Computer and with the other electronic units. The centre module containing the three sets of instruments is not a B-CAN node, but is connected by means of a special serial line to the instrument panel node which sends the module all the signals necessary for the display of the required information.- Speedometer: the function of the speedometer includes displaying the vehicle speed in the instrument panel: this information comes from the ABS control unit, via the Body Computer.- Engine rpm: this function involves the display on the instrument panel of the engine rotation speed by means of the message sent via the CAN from the engine management control unit.- Milometer: the milometer function includes the display and memorizing of the total and trip mileage: the journey information is processed by the Body Computer by means of a counter; the special button in the panel to the side of the steering wheel zeroes the trip meter.- Fuel level: the Body Computer receives the signal from the sensor integrated in the pump assembly inside the fuel tank and processes it to guarantee suitable filtering/damping for the panel gauge, also managing the reserve warning light.- Engine oil level: the function signals the status of the engine oil level at starting (for about 3 seconds) in the display. The actual instrument panel operates a hot wire oil level sensor. If the oil level is below the minimum value, the message "minimum oil level" is also sent.- Engine coolant temperature gauge: is operated - via the instrument panel - by the special sensor on the engine. The maximum temperature warning light is controlled by a microprocessor when the value measured exceeds a certain limit.- Brake pad wear state: this function involves the specific warning light coming on: the Body Computer detects the brake pad wear status when braking (signal from the brake pedal) in a prolonged manner (occasional signals are ignored).- Handbrake applied: the warning light for the handbrake status is controlled by a specific switch; in addition, if a given speed level is exceeded in conjunction with this signal, a warning signal is activated: the signal is sent, via the CAN, from the Body Computer.- Insufficient brake fluid: this function involves the "insufficient brake fluid level" warning light in the instrument panel coming on with the signal sent by the Body Computer via the CAN.For more details See descriptions 5560 INSTRUMENTSThe operation of the warning lights which do not come under any other functions is illustrated below: the other warning lights and displays are described and illustrated in the diagrams for the components to which they refer. |
