939005807 - E5020 ENGINE COOLING - DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

The radiator and air conditioner condenser cooling system consists of two electric fans operated at two different speeds:- the first speed is activated at a first engine coolant temperature level and a certain air conditioning refrigerant fluid pressure;- the second speed comes on at a higher temperature or pressure. An electrically adjusted thermostat is fitted on this version, which allows the adjustment of the temperature of the engine coolant depending on certain parameters managed by the engine management control unit.In this system the activation of the fan is considerably reduced because the intervention of the electrically regulated thermostat makes it possible to keep the engine correctly thermally balance and the intervention of the fans is only requested when the action of the thermostat is insufficient. The control unit processes the signals and, depending on the parameters set, it either does or does not control the resistance on the thermostat for the advanced opening of the thermostat and, if necessary, activates the fans. There are two engine coolant temperature sensors to manage this function, one fitted on the thermostat and the other on the radiator in correspondence with the outlet hose: the two sensors provide the engine management control unit with information concerning:- engine coolant outlet temperature;- radiator coolant outlet temperature;- information for the control panel instrument; For more details:    See E5030 PETROL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT The thermostat and the fans are operated by three specific relays located in the engine compartment junction unit and a fourth relay located on the duct for the actual fans. The supply line for the thermostat and the fans is protected by three dedicated fuses, located in the engine compartment junction unit.
