198001395 - 5540BA DIPPED BEAM CIRCUIT CHECK (Xenon Gas headlamps)

CHECK TO BE PERFORMEDREMEDIAL ACTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
With the ignition key to MAR and the steering wheel stalk set to low beam, ensure the presence at Pin 1 of the 14-way headlamp connector (Master    See F010 LEFT HEADLAMP and Slave)    See F011 RIGHT HEADLAMP ) a voltage of +12 Volt.Move on to Step 3Move on to Step 2
Check that the connector is correctly inserted in the other part.Try to move it from its housing by making small movements in all directions, grasping the connector body in your fingers and the wiring in your hand. The connector must stay in place.Exercise a moderate pulling force. The connector must stay in place.Check whether the power supply goes off, on and/or viceversa (touching/not touching).Pull the lead and check the stability in the groove (it should not move back): exercise repeated pull-push-pull cycles on the cable and check it remains immobile.Use a lens to examine the terminal crimping area. The barrels must be turned symmetrically and three-stranded sections should not emerge from the crimping area. The area of bare wire beneath the barrel must protrude by approximately 0.5 mmThe test can be considered overRestore the continuity of the wiring between the under-dashboard junction unit and the faulty headlamp    See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Disconnect the headlamp 14-way connector (Master    See F010 LEFT HEADLAMP and Slave)    See F011 RIGHT HEADLAMP ).Connect using an ohmmeter between pin 14 (wiring side) of the headlamp and an earth and check that the resistance is less than 1 OhmRestore the correct earth connection    See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Connect using an ohmmeter between pin 13 (wiring side) of the headlamp and an earth and check that the resistance is less than 1 OhmRestore the correct earth connection    See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Switch the headlamp stalk to low beam.Check for the presence of an earth signal at Pin 2 of the Body computer connector    See M001 BODY COMPUTER Restore the stalk unit earth connection    See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Check for the presence of an earth signal at Pin 28 of Body computer connector G    See M001 BODY COMPUTER Restore the wiring between the stalk unit and Body Computer    See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Check that the stalk contacts are not looseReplace the steering column switch unit.    Op. 5550A10 STALK UNIT ASSEMBLY - R+R
Switch the stalk to low beams and check the under-dashboard junction unit to ensure that an earth signal is present at Pin 86 of relay T1 (lower right in the fuse unit).Replace the Body Computer    Op. 5505A35 MAIN BODY COMPUTER/JUNCTION UNIT - R.R.
In the under-dashboard junction unit, check that relay T1 (lower right in the fuse unit) is operating correctly and that the relay contacts are not defectiveReplace relay T1
In the under-dashboard junction unit, ensure that fuses F12 (second from the top in the right-hand row) and F13 (first from the top in the right-hand row) are continuous and correctly inserted. Insert the fuses correctly. Replace them if necessary after identifying the reason why they blew
