198003018 - S026 REAR NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING/TICKING)

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, a creaking noise comes from the rear suspension. This diagnosis can only be made after    See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVINGCarry out the latter first.
If the problem is only on one side, carry out the checks and any operations on the appropriate side only.
TEST RESULTS
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Having carried out the road test    See table S015 NOISE WHILST DRIVING, there was a creaking noise from the rear.Continue depending on the circumstances in which the noise occurs.End of diagnosis1. The noise occurs especially on unmade roads uphill, during acceleration or braking2. The noise also occurs on smooth, undulating roads.1. Move on to Step 12. Move on to Step 4
1TORSION BEAM BUSHES CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that there are no signs of rubbing as a result of contact between the bush and the vertical walls.Move on to Step 2Signs of rubbing detected.Lubricate the elements with silicone grease
The use of unsuitable lubricants can adversely affect the operation of the component.
2DUST COVER CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the dust cover is not rubbing against the shock absorber casing, by moving it and applying pressure and releasing it above the shock absorber casingMove on to Step 3There is rubbing causing the ovalization of the dust cover.Replace the shock absorber    Op. 4420A30 REAR SUSPENSION SHOCK ABSORBER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R. - CHECK WHEEL GEOMETRY SEPARATELY
3CHECKS UNDER THE FLOORALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Position the vehicle on a two column lift and raise it.Check that no pipes, handbrake cable or heat shields under the floor are producing noise. Also check that springs on the layout brackets are not a source of noise    See Test 4420OA CHECK ON STATE OF CLIPS ON LAYOUT BRACKETSMove on to Step 41. Pipes or heat shields incorrectly fastened2. Handbrake cable noisy.3. Springs or rubber mountings damaged1. Renew the correct fastening.2. Lubricate the handbrake cable.3. Replace the faulty components.
4END OF TRAVEL BUFFER CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the buffer is not faulty and is connected to the coverMove on to Step 5The buffer is faulty.Replace the shock absorber    Op. 4420A30 REAR SUSPENSION SHOCK ABSORBER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R. - CHECK WHEEL GEOMETRY SEPARATELY
5RUBBER MOUNTING CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the rubber mountings securing the shock absorber do not show signs of wear on account of rubbing. The shock absorber must be removed for this check    Op. 4420A30 REAR SUSPENSION SHOCK ABSORBER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R. - CHECK WHEEL GEOMETRY SEPARATELY Move on to Step 61. Signs of rubbing on the rubber mountings.2. Damage to the rubber mountings.1. Lubricate the part with a layer of silicon grease.
The use of unsuitable lubricants can adversely affect the operation of the component.
2. Replace the shock absorber    Op. 4420A30 REAR SUSPENSION SHOCK ABSORBER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R. - CHECK WHEEL GEOMETRY SEPARATELY
6SPRING CHECKALL OKPROBLEMS ENCOUNTEREDACTION
Check that the spring shows no signs of wear.
If the spring shows signs of abrasion, its mechanical properties could be weakened as a result of oxidation.
End of diagnosis1. Spring worn2. Upper or lower spring rubber seal deteriorated.1.Replace the spring    Op. 4420A48 REAR SUSPENSION COIL SPRINGS - R.R. 2.Replace the faulty component.
